And besides Lindens which may have this info and only on a portion of sl residents how can anyone in sl really know the answer? A guess is the best you'll do and maybe.

From March 2007:

Philip Linden: I only know them for the entire grid. Average age =
32, 43% of concurrent users are female.

I would say 30+ on average because people younger than that usually want better graphics and more of a 'game' aspect to the experience.

AKA aside from a minority, they don't have the imagination any more after a diet of pap tv, bland music, homogonised clothing etc etc.

30+. It's why you hear so much 80s and classic rock in SL. ;-) I LOVE IT! Damn it... Showing my age now.

I'm guessing the average age is much older than we think. First, you have to have the equipment to run the beast. Second, you need to have the RL time and finances to maintain a SL.

I don't think there are as many (long term) teenagers as people think. They may register free basic accounts for a week or 2 (to visit our dungeons) but SL takes a dedication that goes way beyond plugging in for a night of gaming.

I fully expected a world full of technology advanced smart young people. There are some of course, but what I really found was a world brimming with creative Residents in the 40-60 age range. I don't ask an AV's RL age, cus I really don't care but many tell me anyway. The beautiful part of SL is that RL age does not matter one bit.

Cept we all lied about our age when we signed up making the metrics kinda whacked.
The young are really old, the old are really young. lol.

Oh interesting, although there are more 18-24 year olds with avatars than 35-44, the 40ish use nearly twice as many hours as the 20ish!

Hee, even the 45+ use more hours than the youngsters, and there's only a few more than half the number.

I often wonder about actual age because it is really insignificant if the REAL person maintains a youthful disposition. My sl part is 66 in real and I think he is younger in outlook than me at 27.
There's always a search for oldest member of sl BUT I think we have plenty of 60 plus players.
