"[UPDATED 11 Dec 07, 11:45 p.m.]

The reversion is taking a bit more time than anticipated. Regrettably, we need to extend our projected downtime until 2 pm Pacific."

Welcome to SL, the game with the largest and most extended downtimes.

The only thing that can be worse now is if LL put Northern Rock in charge -.-

Perhaps if they put LL in charge of Northern Rock, it would at least draw a line under it, and put the taxpayers out of our misery.
And when LL went consequentially bust, it could only be a more competent outfit that bought up SL...

I'm not a millionare, nor have I quit my day job YET (I am at my job now on my lunch break) but I am beginning to make decent money from SL doing sculpties for high end fashion shoes and antque victorian furniture. I hope that day comes so I can always be on SL...wait a minute! I would be so distracted in SL, that I would never get any work done...

and I saw a preview of his work!!! awesome stuff, just wish I could afford to pay for this stuff LOL

keep up the good work and if you want to get together to practice or just someone to preview the stuff, give me a shout :)

6 Years Later

6 Years later, God knows how many updates (scheduled or unscheduled), thousands (if not millions) of lines of code, more servers than many major corporations run on, and everyone goes ballistic for a couple more hours downtime.

Take a look at what SL looked like six years ago and tell me most of the new shinies haven't made SL significantly better and a whole lot more stable!!!!

I suppose a cash sweepstake on the time the grid comes back up (closest guess takes the pot,) would be a really bad idea, in view of the whole "gambling"... thing.

Only, sweepstakes are legal over here on this side of the pond (the side where we're being RIPPED OFF for an extra 17.5% (bugger all-)value added tax over and above what our non-European competitors are paying.)

It seems as good a time as any to open a few (not so very) old wounds (there's f*** all else to do, after all!)

You are about a year and a month late with the first welcome ^^. Been around the grid quite a while...I remember those frequent downtimes in the past...

But I wasn't that addicted back then. T_T

I just wanted to express my desperation somewhere. I am not really whining...just bored out of my mind. *goes searching for third life, since she lost the first one*

Not a chance, when have LL ever got involved in a banking scandal!

I mean could you imagine it, they wouldn't get involved in any financial disputes between the bank and residents!

This reminds me of a conversation I heard leaving a Grateful Dead concert once...

DEADHEAD 1: That show was terrible! Jerry was nodding off, the setlist sucked and Bobby couldn't get in tune.

DEADHEAD 2: Yeah. And it was too damn short.

This is so much better than every other Wednesday. Rather odd they did it on a Tuesday but nevertheless, lets all just relax and look forward to tomorrow. The way things are going, I would not count on doing much anyways after SL goes live.

I gathered from the initial blog announcement of the downtime that the asset servers were about to fall over in a much more serious way than we have experienced up to now, or as they put it "something we need to address sooner rather than later".

I for one welcome this opportunity to not experience total and extended unplanned failure of the servers.
If it takes them a few more hours to get the extended server farm on its feet, I'm OK for the wait and the opportunity to experience a goodly amount of unplanned RL time.
