Need help with emoting

Okay I just got a job as a male dancer at a night club. But I need help improving my emoting. I know the mechanics of emoting ("/me";), what I need help is more the technique. What kind of actions are good for me to describe that would turn the ladies on? In other words, what can I describe (what kind of actions) can i do to make the mega tips? :-)

Well, what would you do in RL? Do that.

Then again, this is SL... you might be socially awkward and erotically inept, as many here seem to be... in that case, outsource your emoting.

What turns ladies on (at least this lady) and gets the most tips, is being sexy but genuine, and I am just really not sure how to teach that.

I don't think it can be taught

it has to be something you can either do, or not do

the mechanics can be taught (ie the /me) but techniques and such, that work for one, may not work for another, because it is a personal thing

and personally I don't much like male dancers (or female for that matter) that all they want to do is take my money.

I much prefer guys (and gals) who like to mingle and chat, and make me feel welcome, instead of standing on a stage shaking their pixel ass and so obviously wanting my lindens.

Yes - that is the crux of the *genuine* thing. If you don't really want to mingle with the folks, but instead just want the tips, that will come thru - and I, for one, would end up ignoring you.

same here
it has to be genuine, and not just "I want your money", because... everyone wants someone's money.

If you are into dancing just to make money, good luck... but you probably won't make much

If you are into dancing because you want to meet people, maybe make some friends, have fun at a club/bar, etc, then wow, the money would then be a bonus (people will tip IF they are having fun, and feel like they are being welcomed)

I appreciate what you're saying, Rha - and Lil. It is difficult to fake genuine attraction. But, actors do it fairly successfully, so I think it probably can be taught.

A better approach would be to actually find and express something interesting, fun or attractive about everyone, though. That part of it is not really that hard, and it's the guts of the matter.

As for people who can teach you the artful expression of attraction, hmmm. If you're playing a male dancer, then a successful male emoter might be able to give you better hints than the largely female population here. If you searched for posts by Yosef O'Kelly in these forums (he hasn't been around for awhile), you would find some gems. A recent thread seemed to me to hint that Jerboa Haystack could impart some pointers, if he felt like sharing.

If someone here named Jumpman gives you hints, do exactly the opposite and you'll do fine.

Oh for the love of God, please do not do the vulgar, explicit emotes, that would make a sailor blush. Keep it coy, and use innuendos, and make it fun, and flirty, THAT is much better than being descriptive about what parts you are touching and what you are doing while touching them. (leave that up to the imagination of the viewer/audience)

I have seen some dancers (male and female) emote some stuff that disgusted me and made me feel ashamed to be in the same room with them.
I have also seen dancers (male and female) do the cute, flirty, chatty, fun type of emotes and their tip jars always had tips.

I might be different than other people though, maybe people like that explicit, disgusting type of emotes... *shrug*

Even with an actor it is not so much taught, as it is inherent. Not everyone can be actors, and not every actor can be good. It has to have a certain amount come from within (just like any other kind of artist)

same can be said for dancers, singers, painters, etc etc etc

speaking of posters, do you think everyone could match the level of Trout's posts? Or that someone could be taught to post like him?
Or like Josef or any of the other prolific posters?

I wonder how many of the male dancers out there are actually females behind the keyboard. I do not think the person's RL gender will play much of a part.. either you can do it, or not.

I could emote to a female as easily as I could to a male, and both would feel welcomed, and comfortable with it. (I know this, because I have done this before in SL)

Dick, let me know when you are dancing, and I will come watch, and give you any tips or suggestions that come to mind. (you can ignore them or use them as you wish)

(I am on usually during the days, so if you are dancing during the days let me know)

/me is killing himself laughing at the advice to be "genuine"!

Do like most do; copy some nauseating dialogue from chicklit into a text file so you can paste chunks of it into chat, editing the name of your target. The females are usually so grateful for any sort of attention they don't even notice that you've learned how to spell all of a sudden.

Pep (if you have to fake anything, fake sincerity)

take it from the master, he is very good at faking ;)

and Pep, you sure do put women down a lot, and it is definitely getting old, let it go, find a new "thing" to rant about... K?

(or pretty soon I am going to believe you are a woman, trying very hard to pretend to be a man, and over compensating, much like how a lot of guys do it, when pretending to be women)

Seriously to the OP, have a look through the forums and then decide if you wish to take the advice of the above poster :)

I'm not sexist at all. Females, males, dragons, I'm happy to help all who seem to need it. It just tends to be females that complain the most.

Damn, now he'll find out that most of the people here are lousy at grammar and can't spell, so he'll think that he can emote that way as well.

Ah, Pep! Perishing from ennui again, are you?

Why not beguile the minutes by giving Mr. Sabra here an example of emoting at it's best, straight from the fingertips of a Welsh master?

Let it be original, Pep, not some cut-and-paste tired translation. Get some mental exercise and let your mind run - here in these forums you rarely permit it to twiddle its neurons.

I was not implying that the *genuine* needed to include 'attraction', but I do think the person must genuinely want to mingle and chat and interact with folks, at least a bit, or I think the emotes will ultimately come out sounding like a robot responding to stuff.

Is this really the experience that you have found in SL and/or here in the forums -- do we really all seem that desperate and pathetic to you?

Sorry, I don't do "genuine" emoting; I do genuine. If you want to see an example of my original writing have a look in literotica.

I can emote well from a female, Cause I have written some real good ones for a female friend of mine. As a male, I know what turns on males. So I can describe that. However, as I am not a woman, I cannot say what ladies find hot. I either seem to be too dull or too crude. I am trying to find the balance. Any tips/suggestions, hints/etc.?
