About those pictures.

You can upload any bitmap image on your hard drive to Second Life. There are lots of technical fiddly bits about aspect ratios and so on, but for lots of purposes, uploading a 512x512 pixel PNG file will work well.

(If you want to upload an image here to use as your forum picture, make it 100x100)

Once you've created, or edited, a suitable image, open SL and go to File/Upload. It will cost you L$10 to upload an image. It will be saved in your Textures folder.

Now, the bit about "submitting" images.

One of our zanier forum regulars, Mr. Trout Recreant, has got a long-running scam going. Beautiful women send him pics of their avatars, and he gives them a "slut rating" on a scale from 0 to 10, along with a very nice little evaluation writeup. A lot of us use a quote from his writeup in our forum signatures.

The women are happy. (Trout's writeups are invariably witty, complimentary, and guaranteed to make you feel good about yourself.) Trout is happy (well, duh! He's got a lifetime supply of pinups.) Everybody wins.

You can play this game too. Just dress (or undress) sexy, find a raunchy pose or two, and use the Snapshot button to take pictures of yourself.

There are a lot of people in SL who don't speak much English, which can lead to rather humorous requests for adult activities.

In SL, the distance between "PG" and "hook up" can be awfully short. Here are some common SL activities, along with Lindal's Parental Approval Ratings (not affiliated with the MPAA or any other set of initials).

Fishing, snow skiing, piloting vehicles, skydiving - G (unless you REALLY work at it. Chat fast if you're skydiving. "/me uzips your flight suit and rea...SPLAT"

Homebuilding, decorating, gardening - G (mostly. Could go to X, depending on your choice of furniture or pictures).

Exploring. Visiting Tiny or Furry sims. Visiting sci-fi or other themed areas. G to PG. (mostly. You explore places like Midian or Toxian or nude beaches at your own risk.)

Shopping - PG. (again, mostly. If you go shopping for XXX furnture or animations, or genitals, it's your own fault, you're a Bad Girl...or you're with Jezabell and Elora.)

Singles dancing at a club. - PG

Couples dancing - R

Poseball cuddles - PG to R

Use of scripted beds, rugs, lawn chairs, kitchen counters, showers, bathtubs, hot tubs, spas, washing machines - X.

Use of somebody's dungeon - XXX

The usual progression is: meet while exploring or shopping --> singles dance --> couples dance --> scripted furniture. So you can see it's a very short Road to Perdition.

Lindal - excellent, well thought out list. However you missed one.

Talking - generally G to R. Potentially X to XXX. Depends on how linguistically inclined and talented you are. Can dispose of all the other aforementioned excursions and items if extremely adept in this department

I did think about talking. But it's implied in all the others, and as you said, its "rating" is all over the map.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make (and not doing a very good job, I'm afraid) is that I'm not sure just how much Colette can do that's between "PG" and "hooking up". It's kind of a narrow gap, and awfully easy to slide off the edge to the right. Not that that isn't fun!

I think you made your point very well. And actually, me thinks Colette IS looking for more "fun" than she is letting on We shall see just how much "PG fun" she has if we go out tonight. Pix to follow if that occurs lol!

BTW, I really appreciate the G to XXX progression chart. I can see how that can happen. I understand that talking is incorporated into all the stages and I think that there is a lot of fun to be had in the talking. Personally, I find anything G or PG rather dull. I move pretty fast myself, although I have to say that when I am out IW, I seem to find very dull people. I am not sure how to progress to interesting or fun conversation. My IW time is so very limited, I like to make the most of it.

Plus, there is the other issue of limited knowledge for body motion. I was invited to poll dance the other night, but I was lost and then very slow in figuring out how to do that. That is where the mentoring comes in.

Did you mention pole dancing? Boy, have you found the right group of people - male and female, for that matter.

Yes, I might have had fun if I was not drowning in movement ignorance. Is that type of thing (pole dancing, etc.) an animation that you have to find and purchase or is there usually a poseball?

BTW, they were both men and women pole dancing. One guy was half naked and throwing his beer around. A couple guys were just watching the 2 girls. I found that weird though because the girls were just in an animation cycle with very little interaction. YKWIM?

The girls were probably in IM with the guys, working them for tips or other "services". Not that I have any experience with such. Really, I don't except as the former owner of a strip club.

What is the best place to get good animation and poses? Do they come in a box?

They're usually scripted, so you can just right-click and choose Sit like you would a pose ball, except there is no pose ball.
