You can find free ones at some freebie places I believe.

Normally pose balls are positioned over an object and will have floating text over them like "sit", "relax", "lounge" etc. They are often used on furniture. This is to help position the avatar so that when they sit on the furniture, they look good (at least this is what I think). The poseball makes sure the avatar sits in a certain way. When you want to get up, you right-click your avatar and choose "stand up", or just click on the blue "stand up" button at the bottom of the screen.

The text over the poseball will give you an idea of what the ball does, but you won't know for sure what the position looks like until you try it. There are so many ways that an avatar could be positioned and so many animations that could be embedded in the balls... hard to tell.



As far as I know, the risk is not in buying, the risk is in accepting an object/invitation from someone else. Normally, if someone tries to animate your avatar, you will get a blue pop-up box in the top right corner of your screen. It will say something like, "XXX wants to animate your avatar. Do you want to allow XXX to animate your avatar?" -- You can accept or decline. Some objects also have animations embedded in them and if you put them on, they'll ask for your permission to animate your avatar. For example a pair of dancing shoes might have a dance animation built in, and when you put them on they might want to make your avatar dance!

This whole thread has created a question that I had not thought of before. How do I find and contact people IW? Last night, I made a friend and we even snuggled for a minute before my computer crashed. UGH! That is a question for another time all together...

Your search screen has a tab to search for people. Just enter as much of the persons name as you know.

I sent you an IM last night. You were offline, but I had no trouble finding you to send it...

Click the Search button at the bottom of your screen. Click the People tab. Enter the person's name.

Their Profile will be displayed. Click the IM/Call button and send them a message.

You can also join The Forum Cartel group and call everyone at once through Group Chat (when it's working). Use Search again, click the Groups tab, and enter The Forum Cartel (be sure to use the leading "The". Then click Join.

I take it you're more interested in pose balls than visiting Greenies with the girls. Another method that hasn't been suggested yet is to hang out at landing points of places such as Midnight Reflections or Acropolis and IM a likely feller with the following:

"Hi"
"How R U?"
"Want sechs?"

(Or words to that effect)
This must work for people, or you wouldn't hear it so much.

Colette - you should take up Jezabell on her invitation to hang out with her if she is available and you really want to have a good time and meet a lot of people. I can guarantee you will not lack for good conversation, high entertainment and overall merriment.

Here, you'd need to host it somewhere like Image Shack, Flickr, PhotoBucket, etc. Then use bracketed IMG tags at either end of the URL. Like this, without the spaces:
