I need an IW mentor/friend!

I am new to SL and LOVE it! I am IW about 2 or 3x week or so 10pm-2am-ish CST. I am all about learning how to make myself more realistic - I want to be able to have control of my arms - reach out and touch, wear prim objects, animate, have some cool gestures, how to talk to people without coming off like a total newbie, how to put my clothes in a closet and maybe even figure out what a sex bed is. LOL I have gone through lots of tutorials, but nothing beats some in-the-world training.
I would love to find someone willing to walk me through it, spend some time showing me the ropes. Anyone interested in mentoring? If so, IM me IW or reply and I will look for you.

I have a quick question right now that I hoping will get answered here. I am looking at animations and there are several couple ones. I am interested to know how those work. Can I get them with the idea of using them in the future or are they a package deal (ie. you buy them for you and your partner)? TIA...my curiousity is piqued!

Anybody can use the poseballs. You may want to wait until you have a partner so that you can pick out the ones you like together, but there are plenty that aren't as intimate that you may want to spread around your property as well. I don't know whether you can set permissions on them or not, although with things like the sex beds, you certainly can.

Feel free to IM me in world anytime you want. There are a ton of fun things to do in SL and I'd be happy to show you some of them.

Hmm, perhaps a "personals" forum in the classifieds is a good idea.
Not unsual for individuals to post here about where to meet people or, ahem, request a pose ball demonstration.
Maybe a personals or dating forum is an improvement over looking for partners at the dance clubs, specially if you're looking for more than "de sechs".

Nope, you own the package (both balls). Put them out, and anyone can use them.

You should always try before you buy, though. If you can't take a friend with you, ask someone else at the store to help you demo them. The reason is that many ballsets won't "go" without both balls being occupied.

What are balls? Aside from the obvious bouncy or anatomy kind...

You can trust me. I'm a professional.

They're spheres with animations built in, often blue for boys and pink for girls. You'll most often see them singly, such as for sit poses, or doubled for dances and other adult animations, but there are some group sets around as well.

Poseballs are the balls that you sit on to activate animations. When you asked about shopping for animations, I assumed that's what you were looking at, since most couples animations are based on poseballs. There are a few animations that don't, like dance balls and hug attachments, and some furniture hides the balls pretty well. For the most part, when you get a couples animation, you will get two poseballs - a blue one for the male and a pink one for the female. You right click and sit on them and it either automatically animates your avatar or you get a message asking if you want your avatar animated.

You can rez the poseballs where you want them, but you'll have to move them around a little to get them placed right. Sometimes you end up half buried in the ground or you don't line up right with your partner.

That's just scary....

I see those all the time and never knew what they were. How does that work? Are they free? How do you pick them up? How do you know what they are?

Also, I was looking at animations and then saw that post where the guy had control over his avatar and people mentioned that perhaps he gave him control as some point. Are there risks to buying animations?

You just right-click>Sit to activate the animation, although some paired sets require avs on both balls before they work. They're generally not free, but you can usually tell what they're named by either hovering your cursor over them or right-clicking, choosing Edit and, if necessary, clicking the More button to expand the edit window. The General tab here will give you the name as well, although they aren't always terribly descriptive.

Bits and Bobs has great pose balls if you're in the market to purchase.


Not in buying the animations themselves, no, but if someone offers you something like a hug and you agree to it, you'll have given them permission to animate your avatar. Some people use that unscrupulously.
