And also considering the fact that Seattle is known worldwide as a fashion Mecca, anyway. Are you sure they are 2 different people?

No offense to any Seattle fashionistas outh there, but the only fashion I associate with Seattle is plaid flannel shirts and fleece vests.....

/me reads this post and gleefully starts packing her bags.

FINALLY! A place where even *I* can look good!

/me holds up trench coat and looks at it critically.

Foo. This raincoat is SO last year...

I hate drama... Just walk away from her. She isn't a friend just a needy person clinging on.

Amen! My SL is being pruned of people who are only there when there's something bad happened to them, but nowhere to be seen if they are happy. When I am sad I tend to just hole up alone and not bother anyone ... I can't be bothered with drama.

Mind you, I tend to run like hell from people who state on their PROFILE about no drama as they are often the worst offenders in it's creation ...

Yes they do, but he is probably color blind too among a few other things.

I'd remembered hearing something about this a few years back.

I haven't caught anyone in a lie myself...but I'll go ask my buddies George, Matty, and Brad to see if they know anyone.

The impression I'm getting from this thread is that there's tolerance for anything that could be construed as building the wall between online persona and real-world identity. That fictionalizing one's offline persona is seen as a serious breach of trust even if it's a lie by omission.

I have to ask, in what circumstances do any of you feel comfortable continuing or advancing a *cough* delicate relationship, when you catch the other person in an outright lie? I lost interest in any online "pursuits" some time ago, but SL pushes the boundaries of possible virtualization, so I'm honestly curious. Does the time spent together really make it worthwhile to attempt to repair and resume? Do you see chasing it as chasing the holy grail of "online made real"? Is it that it's all a fantasy anyway, so the lie doesn't matter that much? Or is there something I'm missing?

Also, a couple of things about celebrity gathered from friends who don't have to fight notability referrals on Wikipedia. People who depend on name recognition know to avoid "unveiling" online if they ever want to spend any time kicking back like ordinary people. It's a survival characteristic. Also, there's a real live human being behind each name that defies objectification. That applies to every player and demands everyone be judged on their own merits, so if you have a hard personal rule for dealing with people, either positive or negative, hold fast.

So I thought I'd throw those out there. My questions still stand.

It's taken me a while to work through this and really understand how I feel, but here's where i am right now.

If someone doesn't want to talk about their RL to me, then I am totally fine with that. But be up-front about it - if I ask a question that you are uncomfortable answering, then just say that and I will respect it. Do NOT make something up for the sake of keeping me happy.

So I could potentially have an SL relationship with someone and know nothing about their RLs - I would rather do that than to think I know something and then later find out that it's a lie.

I have to say that this realisation is a relatively new one for me - still getting used to what it means to have an online avatar who isn't necessarily the same as the RL person....

Seriously, Seattle isnt that bad when it comes to fashion, true by the time it hits us its over, but we do have our own unique style, kinda Hippie meets Money meets crackhead.....yeah

and in case ya was wondering, Seattle invented multitasking, so its possible Colette :p

Don't forget the Birkenstocks with socks and the skirt worn over pants. That last one boggles my mind.

I'm either a globe-trotting millionaire recording-artist who won the Nobel Prize and has a degree in astrophysics, or an average looking, overweight goof who struggles to make ends meet some months, but usually still manages to enjoy his life quite a bit. One of those two. You guys decide. I vote for the latter because it's less work for me to pull off. I didn't even get good grades in earth physics. Astro-physics is going to be way outside of my range.
