From: Void Singer instinct does not imply a decision, and chemical modification doesn't either, they are automated responses, or outside interferences (and thus reductions of informed decision processes). but it's interesting that you include emotional modifiers, since "purely" logical conclusions are often reviled (and probably not realistically possible for most humans) See Treasure's post in the Zombie Thread for a perfect example of the convergence of your and my opinions. From: Seven Okelli You know, I thought this was rather cold until I realized that there is one thing you're written that ironically enough, I'd never taken seriously. It's your line "Assume sarcasm as default".
It turned everything upside down! If your default is sarcasm, it means that most of what you say isn't meant to be taken seriously. Contrariwise, if most of what you say is serious, then sarcasm couldn't be the default. Confusing isn't it? A self-referential paradox, like "I always lie". Pep (It takes time, but I'm pleased that some of you seem to be getting there.) PS I apologise to anyone who would rather treat this forum as a no-go area for rational thought.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville You were in that book "The Castle" by Kafka? I haven't read "The Castle." More like "The Trial" It too has a K, and we all seem to be perennially on trial in both worlds However on that occasion I just couldn't get my name out.

From: Pserendipity Daniels Pep (Is it some sort of instinct that makes women want excessive amounts of footwear?) I'm pretty sure that's a cultural imperative. but then I don't subscribe to it... ETA: I always read your title as standing alone, akin to "All general statements are false".

From: Argent Stonecutter Here's a followup to "How do you refer to your avatar", this one's a question for the avatars... how do you refer to your player? "ugly bag of mostly water" [for anyone that did not get that: ST:TNG]

From: Seven Okelli I think that one reason this topic bothers me because it implies that some people in SL are insincere in their presentation of self.
I assume that everyone in SL is, like me, roleplaying. So I'm not concerned with any "real" connection with their feelings or their "true self" or whatever. I'm concerned with their and my responses to each other's presentations only. Are they good actors? am I acting well? My initial thought when I read your post was, "is an actor insincere when he's playing a role?" I guess there must be people who are not acting in SL. I can see why the facebookers and roleplayers disconnect.
