My RL hair is black and my SL hair is mainly black..but I do change hairstyles/haircolour here more often than I do in RL.

My SL "identity" is tied up in my hair colour for some reason. But yeah, that makes sense: it's much easier to correct an "OMG . . . what have I done!" moment with your hair in SL than it is in RL. _____________________

I refer to myself as I or we, depending on how many avies I have going ATM.
ETA- Whith multiple views going I will sometimes refer to my avies by their first name; last name if I have both Rafes going at the same time, in that case "I" refers to me and my active avatar; they refers to all avatars I am currently not controlling ![]() _____________________

In my case, the fatal decision was taken in cold blood, while completely sober. I think I've managed to track down and destroy ALMOST all of the photos dating from those dark, dark days . . . _____________________

I want to say that this subject makes me uncomfortable. I'm not sure why. When I am in SL, all of me, the person in RL typing, the little pixel self, my alts, are all "me". It bothers me when someone talks about any of those things as if they were separate, as if an alt or the avatar was a separate or unreal person. I suspect it bothers you either because it makes you question your view of self, or it presents you with a way of viewing the self that is greatly different from your own. To some people, their avatar and their "self" ARE two separate entities. Either they see the avatar as merely a cartoon, a placeholder, and their "self" as the body and mind behind the monitor, or they see the avatar and the bit of themself they put into it as a character on the stage. They may "play" their avatar, but not BE their avatar. These ways of perceiving the "self" in a virtual world are so fundamentally different that they tend to create communities within SL. The Facebookers, the Immersionists, and the Roleplayers. Members of these communities tend to find like-minded friends and tend to ignore or even distrust members of the other communities. _____________________

Whose hair is brown in rl? What is this "RL" of which you speak? _____________________

When I am in SL, all of me, the person in RL typing, the little pixel self, my alts, are all "me". I never play along with referring to my younger premium account as an "alt". To me, they are both "mains" and "alts" are the accounts I use once and then forget existed. _____________________

I mostly try to avoid discussion of the person behind the keyboard. If I absolutely MUST reveal RL info, it's usually along the lines of "BRB...moar wine" or "I've got the flu" or "I've been really busy in RL - haven't logged in for ages" sort of thing.

It just seems natural to me to say "I" or "me" when I'm taking about both SL and RL, the same person. I'm very immersionist to the point that the two are blurring. I have posted elsewhere of going into a RL restaurant with a friend and the hostess asked for a name for the waiting list. I said something like, "Wes-- umm Wa- umm, I mean K-- ?" My friend looked at me funny and gave her name.
On the rare times I do have to differentiate in conversation and then it feels natural to slip into 3rd person for either, so it becomes "Weston does this -"or "my keyboard guy thinks - ." That's the only time I will use 3rd person unless it's with the emote /me chat option which I do use a lot for effective canine role playing. Having said that, my *keyboard guy* is excited that a new video card should be arriving today so *I* can be in world again instead of in limbo buried in a snow drift somewhere at Livingtree, the last thing I saw before the computer fried. _____________________

Don't go to auctions then, or that turn could be understood as a bid of 8 ![]() Yes, bingo is problematic, too. |

I'm sure if someone called out "Seven!" in a crowd I would stop and turn. Everyone I've met so far, from SL, (Mo and Kaimi and 2 others not from the forums) we've interchangeably and easily called each other by rl and sl names without missing a beat, and answered every time. Treasure has been my internet handle since long before SL anyway, was a nickname from my daddy. |

I've had (and still have) so many different screennames, handles, etc that I sometime don't respond to the one I'm using.

Treasure has been my internet handle since long before SL anyway, was a nickname from my daddy. ^this^ I sometimes get confused when a friend addresses an avatar that happens to have my RL first or last name. There are more than a few out there so it happens more often than one might expect. _____________________
