Here's a followup to "How do you refer to your avatar", this one's a question for the avatars... how do you refer to your player?
I asked this once before in a slightly different way, as a poll played for yucks. But let's be serious this time... if you refer to your avatar in the first person, how do you refer to the meat popsicle sitting at the keyboard? First or third person, by name, species, role, or some kind of cute pet name? Are you consistent, or does it depend on how you're feeling or what you're doing?

I understand what you're asking, but most of the time for me it's a meaningless question.
I'm Lindal, whether that means the cartoon on the screen or the person tapping the keys.
If clarity in communications requires drawing a distinction, I may refer to "me in RL" or "my operator"

If I am inworld, talking about RL, I will still say 'I'. She is me and I am she.......

Like Lindal, the question for me is meaningless. There is only person - me at the keyboard. My avatar is me - always. E.g. if I go to a customer's place to deal with something, it's me at the keyboard who goes there. There simply isn't any differentiation.

I'm not a "player" - - Log into SL like I pick up the phone or answer the doorbell or log into another computer job.
"I" and "me"
If using an alt.....they refer to Mickey as "that bitch"....but even then...it's still "I" and "me" at the keyboard.

The only time this question has ever come up for me is in this thread.

I think you're all taking too immersionist-versus-augmentationist a view of things, so for the people who use first person... how would you write "my hair is brown" to distinguish the player's hair from the avatar's hair?

Easy. Same Deal. Same features. My hair is red. ok, to be fair. the alt says..."that bitch with the red hair made me a blonde."

From: Phil Deakins Not me. I'd say, "My RL hair is brown." Well, um. That works well too. Although in truth, I'd say "My RL hair is black" . . . because that is what it actually is. (I was using Argent's example.)

I refer to myself in the first person. Context usually makes it clear if I'm referring to my RL or SL self.

My avatars are parts of me but definitely not the whole integrated me. They are often exaggerated bits of me that I bring out to play with in what I consider a safe environment. When I am out of world I refer to them in third person. When I am in world I use first person. For example I might talk about my main: Whimsycallie started using the high elfin avatar to create emotional distance.
When I am in world and need to talk about me at the key board my avatars refer to their author. For example Whimsy might say to other avatars: Sorry, I have to go my author is insisting she needs to get up from the keyboard and stretch a while.
So, I guess I switch perspective depending on what world I am in.

I want to say that this subject makes me uncomfortable. I'm not sure why. When I meet people in RL who I know in SL, I refer to myself as "me" no matter the context. In real life, I am "me" no matter whether I am talking of the flesh-and-blood person or the little pixel self. When I am in SL, all of me, the person in RL typing, the little pixel self, my alts, are all "me". It bothers me when someone talks about any of those things as if they were separate, as if an alt or the avatar was a separate or unreal person. It's worse than the affected referring to oneself in the third person in ordinary conversation. From: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1282/is_n6_v48/ai_18177779/ . Bob Dole's habit of referring to himself in the third person is... disconcerting... He sounds as if he really doesn't want to be President, he just wants Bob Dole to be President.
My nerves gave way... when he told supporters, "You're going to see the real Bob Dole from now on." I turned him off and surfed around for an old movie to take my mind off politics... I finally settled on Wuthering Heights but my respite was brief. When Merle Oberon cried, "I am Heathcliff, he's more myself than I am!" all I could think of was Bob Dole.
