If you limit the sound of objects on your parcel to your parcel only (in the About Land windows), you will no longer hear from objects on the next parcel. That would be a lot easier than trying to mute the neighbors objects. Then you just have to convince them to use IM. If I'm wrong about that working, you can get them to select the same option on their land to stop hearing their objects.

It seems to me that all of you have been missing the obvious win/win/win solution to this problem:
Angelique fully understands the lifestyle, the problem, the language and apparently Eben.
Eben asks Angelique to talk to the neighbor and explain things.
Angelique makes a friend in the lifestyle.
Eben achieves the peace he seeks.

This isn't true because I have heard other people's objects in sims next to mine even with settings on or when trying to mute objects. For a while there you had to mute objects every time you logged in unless it changed. Only real sollution is move up in the sky far away and hope they don't follow.

I had a similar situation in RL to tell you the truth. I was a straight yet socially liberal person who moved into a live-in workspace on 9th & harrison street in San Francisco. Shortly afterwards, "The Bear Store" opened up. their showcase window facing the street featured some of the most imaginative pictures of poses that large hairy men were capable of. I'd get flyers for 'fisting parties' on the windshield of my car. I'd hear movies being filmed in their studio upstairs (adjacent to my bedroom), and to top it off, the store owner underneath me would often forget to turn off his Islamic Call for Prayer cd and it would run all night.
OPOO OH YEAH (alllaahhhhh) UGH!!!! MMMPH!!!! THUMP (allaahhhhh).... get the point?
I had to move, and complained to no one. first, its the SOMA district of San Francisco, one of the world's cores of social liberalism. I took a big loss. I had the sweetest place in the neighborhood, visually. i moved into a crap bedroom and pretty much had to start over.
So what the heck's my point? I view unzoned areas of SL the same way. If its unzoned, prepare for anything. thats part of the beauty. It means you can have a fundamental nazarene church facing the BDSM place if you want. It means you can put up a sign that says "youre sick and twisted!" if you want. or you can ask to go over there and get spanked or prodded or rope-tied or pee on someone or whatever if you want.
If youre not doing anythign that requires unzoned land, getting some zoned land and renting til you know what you like is the best method that ive learned in SL. I had to move a few times in here as well til i found what i wanted. I have no complaints anymore. I live on a hippie-sim with a big common mountainous area and a couple bunnies and foxes. Couldnt ask for more. (im not a furry, i just think theyre really cool). It took several months before I was happy, but thats how RL goes too isnt it? Sell the land, abandon it, whatever -- the frustration might cost more than the land itself if you stay somewhere you dont like.
