What issues will you bring to the Town Hall?

Hiya, folks. Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. It's nice to see that a thread has been generated so quickly.

Oryx: Check out the Public Issue Tracker. Residents can vote on which issues they feel are most crucial. A large number of votes on any issue certainly draws our attention.

Ctar: Thanks for the comment. I completely agree that we should work together. We rely on Residents for your amazing feedback, which enables us to identify important issues in the community. We don't want to gloss over anything, which is why Cory will attend the Town Hall. He is equipped to answer those tough technical questions that you've posed.

Ceera: Point taken. *investigates*

Susanne: Thanks for the comment. We're taking your concerns seriously. Like I mentioned above, Cory will attend the meeting precisely because he can answer technical questions and bring the community up to speed on exactly what we're doing to address your concerns. Also, thanks for your 3rd paragraph. We too are hoping for a constructive Town Hall.

Keep the feedback coming!

Heretic, you probably have no idea how much good a few simple posts like yours does. We're [most of us] on the same side. We have the same goals. We want SL to continue to do well and be the best. Speaking only for myself, as long as you LL folks are trying AND communicating with us, I am hopeful. I would really like to grab some pom poms and buy a cheerleader uniform. LOL we're not THERE yet, but I sincerly hope progress is being made.

And finally...Heretic...thanks for listening. It means a lot to me anyway.

Town Hall Forum Questions
05-01-2007 12:54
Hi all - just wanted to let you know we set up a forum for your questions for the Town Hall.

Our plan is for Cory to address the specific issues raised in the open letter, all of which were performance and technology related.

A few of you raised the question about me participating in this week's Town Hall to discuss customer service, but I think we should hold off on that one for a couple more weeks. I want to get the new system in place and then we can talk at a Town Hall about how it's working, and what the next steps should be.

In the meantime, if you have specific questions, please feel free to join me at one of my office hours. They're held at my 'office' in Ambleside. For specific times, please check the public Google calendar called "Inworld Office Hours for Lindens", or the Office Hours page on the wiki.

Good to hear from Robin and Heretic here. Regarding customer service, the main issue can be summed up in one word: Communication. Here's hoping we are entering a new age of more consistant and timely responses.

you know, i cant believe what i am reading here.

these are real problems, and we are screaming to get some answers. we are begging the lindens to tell us whats going on and what they are doing to fix it. and the only reply we get is:

just sit tight folks, and a few days from now, we will send out someone to tell you what is going on.

ahem. and suddenly everyone is satisfied, everyone breathes a sigh of relief, all is well, golly, they actually said something.

doesn't anyone notice that no answer to any question was given?? no linden lab employee made any statement about what is being done. nothing. not a clue. just, hey guys, we will tell you sometime soon we promise.

i am seeing people thanking the lindens for simply telling them they arent telling them anything.

instead of a town hall, why don't the lindens reply in writing to the letter? explain what is happening, describe the actions they are taking, and discuss each point in the letter? that would be so remarkably more efficient than a town hall. they know this too. i have attended 2 town halls, and they are lag infested spam ridden messes. the lindens who are there even crash while doing it. so why are they proposing a town hall when a well written explanation that anyone can read would serve much better?

Movie fans, watch the "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." Specifically , the press conference given by the Governor, played by Charles Durning. (For added irony, The Liinden servers are in Texas, I believe?)

Give them a chance to put their money where their blog is. At least they are reacting.

Marilyn, I think people are just happy to see that some one, somewhere, is actually reading this stuff and is thinking about it. We understand if they don't have immediate answers, but to start by ACKNOWLEDGING our concerns is a big step in the right direction. LOL I sound like a counselor for AA.... we all know that the first step is admitting that we have a problem... :P

Anyway, a BIG thumbs up to Heretic and Robin for stepping into the lion's den!

raymond, i love you. your a decent sort and i know you want good things for all. don't you see it's this very sort of double talk and lack of communication that this whole thing is about?
they know the servers suck. they know we are walking in molasses. they know the tps fail, our inventories lose stuff, we cant rez items...you know they know. and they arent going to tell us. they arent going to fix it and they arent about to tell us that. so now they stage a town hall, and its the usual mess and nobody really answers anything and we all feel better because a linden spoke to us and everyone that can tp home does, the rest of us will have to relog a few times to tp away. i have watched this go on for years.

I'm sort of the same boat as a few of you. I completely understand LL's preferrence for a "town hall" type meeting.........afterall isn't that one of their selling points to corporations? The problem I have with this type of meeting is that it's very hard to keep track of the flow of conversation with people chating or commenting between a question and the answer.........it takes a few seconds to minutes to type in a response. There could be 10 comments (many irrelevant) between the question and answer......that's hard for me keep up with. Open chat is fun in clubs and other social situations...........but frustrating if you are trying to discuss any serious issue. I believe such meetings could work for corporations with the disapline of such business........but I'm afraid we (residents) are an undisaplined group. The interruptions and cutesy chit chat would seriously hender any serious discussion.

I won't be able to attend due to having to take care of RL with my job during the time of the meeting. But I would like to know how it went and what was discussed and hopefully accomplished by the meeting. But, a straight transcript of the meeting would only be a little less confusing than actually being there. I've read transcripts of town hall meeting of the past.......they really don't read well at all. So, what I would like is some concise "report" eliminating the idle, off topic chat. I know that would require a lot of editing.......which could wind up being abused by whoever does the editing. Prehaps one Linden and one of the writers of the "Open Letter" do their edits and then get together and arrive at an accuate, concise and complete "report".

This way we could really evaluate what has been addressed adequately and the ways toward resolutions. I just want to know what is honestly going to be addressed and seriously discussed.........and how it's going to attempted to be resolved. And it all could be put up for every resident to read.........a "sticky" of sorts on the Official Blog. Something we could come back to in six months and see what has been improved or what has not. I don't think that would be unreasonable.

But in past years you had live help and Lindens in-world to help with issues. Now that our channels of communication have gone away, seeing one open back up has to be looked at as a positive step. Consider the alternative.

Thank you for calling me a decent sort, BTW. It's the nicest thing I've heard in weeks. :)

Marilyn, that's what the Town Hall is for. I don't know about Robin, but I'm not an engineer and I don't know how to answer your tough technical questions about things like lost inventory. Cory will be able to answer those questions at the Town Hall.

I'm definitely looking for ways to make the Town Hall questions and answers widely accessible after the meeting is over. Point taken regarding transcripts, by-the-way. Thanks for the comments, and I will most certainly take them into consideration.

Also, if you have specific questions you would like addressed at the Town Hall meeting, please post them here: /341/1.html. This forum was set up by Robin and Jeska so that Residents could determine the topics of conversation.

Keep talking to us!

well, heretic, frankly, i don't see the point to a town hall. whats it for?

if u have a leak in the roof, you dont form a committee, u dont call a meeting, you fix the leak.

fix the leak.

hahahhahah................but, Marilyn. I've been as critical as anyone with LL........and sometimes I approach being fanatical on some subjects concerning customer service. But it appears someone is listening........Heretic and Robin for two. Let's give it chance. If any improvement at all comes from it, it's a plus. And then we can scream for more pluses til we all get it right......that's goal, isn't it?

I'm not a big fan of town hall meetings but I really do understand LL's prejugdice for it. And, even though it will be laggy as hell, and a very tiny percentage of the residents will able to attend........it is a communications method. A two way communications to boot. Beats the heck out what has been happening for almost a year now.

And on the leaky roof. Maybe you don't have to have a committee to fix it. But you have to investigate where the leak is AND why it occurred in the first place. All of us are screaming "there's a leak"...........everyone knows there's a leak. But where does it originate? How do we fix it so it does not happen again? Sometimes that leak is caused by a roofing nail that rusted away. Sometimes it's caused by someone cutting in a skylight and not sealing it properly. Sometimes its caused by wood peckers or termites. And sometimes it's caused by the roof caving in. All those "fixes" require a different way to properly eliminate and prevent from happening again. So, a committee wouldn't help much.............but input and investigation would.

I'm willing to bite my tongue for a bit longer.........see if LL can reverse my thinking. :) I'm pulling for them on this one.

Stop trying to shoot the messengers.

I don't understand it. We get not one, but two Lindens to post here and they have given links and asked for feedback that will make for a more productive Town Hall.

I don't see how snippy comments towards them will help to "fix" anything. All that sort of unproductive talk will do is get this thread, and eventually this forum, closed.

I say take the negativity to a resident forum. Venting is nothing but hot air that is not needed at this time.

/vent.

Okay, but only if your toaster says it's ok. :)

My vent on venting was a general commentary and not a personal attack on anyone. We are all frustrated. But to me, it's like yelling at the flight attendants because the pilot is having problems in the cockpit. It's unproductive and no one ends up getting a free cocktail.

My question will be:

Will Linden Labs allow the Land Regulation to clean up the dirty deals happening on Private Sims. And if so will they endorse it.
