LL has responded to Project Open Letter (which you can still sign) with a blog post and the announcement of the first Town Hall in over a decade (in furry years). What topics do you want to hear them address first? Here's my top choice: Inventorylossfriendslistborkedblacktextureslandbotslagcrashingshoeupmyass moneytransfertakingforevercustomerservicedoesnotpickupphonesunsetlookslike hydrogenbomb. http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/30/project-open-letter/

- Why we still have resmods on the forums.
- Why we cannot send group notices with large groups.
- How will griefing be handled in the future since it seems AR's are not being responded to by some residents.
- Will current issues be fixed before introducing any new features to SL?
Stuff like that...you know, the norm.

Why the Texas colocation is underperforming and causing so many issues for the sims hosted there (I'd guess it's the primary reason for "Failure to rez" problems). Quite a few other things, but they're more recent decisions/policy rather than technical so they don't really have a place. From: MadamG Zagato Why we still have resmods on the forums. I think it was Strife who pointed it out in a thread a few months ago. Without resmods LL will probably close and get rid of the forums, I think at this point they're the only thing keeping them from closing down.

Yes would be good to see Phillip there, I may even be lucky enough to see a Linden at town hall, and should they move/upgrade townhall to a sim that can support 100 Avatars? Being DownUnder means we don't see Lindens they rarely are game to venture out when us Australians are loose on the grid

I think Linden Labs is responding quickly and responsibly to the open letter and I encourage anyone who wants to share responsibility in the future of Second Life to attend the Town Hall meeting. Hopefully we all can bring a positive attitude to achieve something constructive as I doubt there'll be time to just air grievances.

I'd like to echo a previous suggestion that the townhall be relocated this time around. Last townhall with cory was bad enough. We've got many more residents who would probably like to attend this time around. It would be nice if LL could set up a block of private islands, and come up with a way to accomodate what's likely to be record attendance numbers.
Also:
Chat repeaters that work, or maybe even another audio format like Philip did.

I'd like to know why all of my text is fuzzy looking. I heard people complaining about this right after the deadly update 1.15...whatever. Some people say they don't see a difference. Things seem like they are taking longer to render with this version.

No problem with my text at all other than the blue sign at ASL, but that has been like that for months.

From: Envoy Costagravas Well, *there's* a really intelligent response. Either that or the sarcasm isn't translating. Well many of us do want new features, perhaps they should renable version 1.0 for those who don't and a small seperate grid for them to retire in Bugs need to be fixed too but to stop going forward is like pouring all your funds into making an old car perfect instead of planning some for a new car.

Wow, I can't believe openletter worked Not that I thought it was a bad idea, but it's not the first time residents have voiced their oppinions and LL have become fairly good at no noticing. We know how to poke them now I'm hoping that good things around going to come out of this, but I had doubts about the points on the letter which I kept to myself. If you shout 'SL has bugs!' it's too easy for LL to come back with 'sit tight, we're working on it'. I think there's little to gain from complaining about the symptoms, so if I have the oportunity to bring somthing to the town hall meeting it'll be to do with what's causing the problems. For example, the way LL goes about developing the viewer. History has proven that their policy of continual updates introduces more bugs than features or fixes, it might be worth talking to them about rethinking that policy. Fewer, bigger updates that have spent more time in testing etc. LL need to answer some questions about voice chat too IMO. To my mind it seems like somthing they're doing for the sake of doing, it's somthing most residents don't want so should they be forcing it through just because they want it? Are we going to lose more than we gain by introducing voice chat? As a business owner I think I'd also want to push LL to take a little more responsibility for what they're doing, to be mindful that the way they do things often causes problems for small businesses in SL, my profits take a nose dive with pretty much every update. I know they've absolved themselves of all liability in their TOS, but that shouldn't give them free licence to be wreckless. We were invited here to run businesses and to make real money, that's how SL has been sold and LL should remember that whenever they make changes. I'll no doubt think of more when I have more time to post lol Do we know when and where yet? Vale

Problem isn't that we don't want new features. Oh, I love the idea of prim reduction via the sculpted prims, but... what will they break in the process of adding them? Plus, there were features that worked beautifully in the past that are now borked, such as the Friends List. It was borked because a new feature was added to it, (no, I am not blaming the new feature itself.. there are bugs that occur in any update!) and it hasn't been properly fixed. How many of us are dreading updates now, because something or several somethings tend to wind up not working for days after? How many of us wish that they'd get the previous version behaving more stably before adding new features, so that we know the new feature broke it again? Realize that most MMO's update maybe twice a year, after carefully checking their new features in home and testing them in mass on a training/beta system for at least a month. Here, it's more plug it in and pray it holds.. and then be unavailable for response when it doesn't. I wouldn't mind waiting a few months for a promised feature, if it meant I didn't have to wonder if I will log into a lost inventory or build tools that didn't work sort of day. I don't care what the ToS says, real money is involved in this game and most people respond very badly when they lose real money to bugs and glitches.. only to be told that they are screwed because it can't be replaced. So what do I want addressed in the town hall? Well, support is my biggest thing. But I really want to hear is what the tech-types really think needs to happen with the grid for it to become more stable.

I don't want progress to stop, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. They way LL have been developing the SL has left it loaded with bugs, this latest update will only run for a few minutes on my system before it gobbles up all my memory and I have to relog. I can run Doom3, but I struggle with SL. There's more than one way to skin a cat, lets get the viewer on top form then think about what features we might like in SL2. /me wants shadow maps! Vale.

From: Raymond Figtree What topics do you want to hear them address first? I'm unhappy with Life Help going away. I know why they did it but I think they really need some channel of communication to stay open and the current scheme of emailing support feels like a black hole. Over a week ago I sent them an email about a sim having problems and never got anything but an auto-reply. The sim continued to have problems for almost another full day then finally crashed. There are plenty of residents out there who would be willing & able to run triage for LL. I would be happy with a system that lets them filter out the easy stuff and only send LL the serious stuff if they had an official/direct way to get ahold of LL when LL is needed. I'd even be fine with them making it premium-only (/me is on file but not premium) for a while and seeing how that goes.

The 'sculpted prim' might well be a nice feature - but how many people will actually be able to use it?
I would have thought that it would be much better to allow the 'big prims' as part of the client instead of having to use the hacked ones that are doing the rounds. After all, one 40x40 prim probably takes up less data than four 10x10 prims, and probably less server load. Perhaps add the provisio that over 10m in any dimension and you can't enable physics, just to be safe?
I've seen many places where something like a floor is made up of a dozen prims in a 40x30 arrangement; there's really no reason to use 12 prims when one with a texture repeating pattern would work just as well.
However, I get the feeling that they aren't going to be answering those sort of questions - merely addressing the points raised in Project Open Letter ... and that the 'other' town hall where other questions are addressed will be planned "soon" (ie don't hold your breath)
