So basically you're saying sh!t happens. Not particularly informative or insightful. Look the bottom line is people pay for a service and it's an understatement to say that it has been subpar as of late. While it is understandable that Linden Lab can't just pull out a magic wand and fix technical problems when they pop up, it's equally understandable that people who pay Linden Lab tier directly or indirectly are upset, and taking a patronizing, unsympathetic and self righteous attitude towards SL residents isn't going to win any arguments or persuade anyone about anything.
No one claimed to expect perfection or anything even close to it. What percentage is acceptable for a technology service provider? It seems here that it is close to if not dipping into the double digits in terms of percentage when service is defective and unreliable. I can't think of any of the more traditional service providers that could remain economically viable with those kinds of numbers (ISP, telecommunications, cable, or even MMORPG publishers for that matter - we've seen many of those perish based on less dismal performances). Linden Lab only gets away with it because there is no other competition but the fact that its performance fails to comport to other service providers is naturally going to put people off. Sh!t does happen and we have to deal with it.. and please don't think I don't take into mind the ones that run SL as a RL work to get RL money. I do. And I do know that the amount of money put in doesn't equal the stable grid that we should be getting. People put in 100 of dollars a month and yet what they get in return is an unstable game. But with the amount of people complaining at once doesn't make anything or anyone work faster. Second Life years ago had worse problems then todays problems. So in retrospect they are doing better compared to that. Some don't see it that way because they haven't been around for 3-4 years and didn't see the problems we went threw for 2+ months solid. I guess my views towards SL's problems now don't compare to what we went threw back in 05/06 when things were a bit worse. So therefor I don't complain and get sick of people that do.. every single time. |

I just got in too - looks like the grid is beginning to un-wedgie itself (hopefully). Took a good 3-4 minutes for the logon to finish, so I wouldn't call it stable just quite yet.

I think that part of the problem is that it was really really bad and then it got a whole lot better. We have actually now gone for long periods with only very minor glitches. And then it seems like performance has gotten worse in the last month or two and the outages have been more frequent in the past couple of weeks and then today has just been a nightmare. It is like most other services in life - people come to expect what they are used to and LL got things a lot better for a while, so we came to expect it and get highly ticked when it seems they are going back to the old days of constantly borked.

then when i feel better i'll get my cell phone out and call the shop..
