Sighs by now i watched a complete movie and still cant login
![]() i dont get it tho, if the have these things, why not logging evryone off, restarts all servers and let it run again , then there wil be only the problem of allot of users connecting at once, but even that is whats now hapening annyway, and im sure this wil only hickup for about 20min and evryting is back to normal... no what there doing now is let servers hickup for hours leaving evryone off, LL you have someting thats BIG rewrite logins servers, assetss servers to handle this all , if i read status.secondlifegrid.com evryday its alwayse someting going on, stop working on vieuwer for while 1.21.6 is stable and start working on other servers or devnelop a new way to login and to handle things just my 2cents while im probl going to watch another movie now ![]() |

Will have to find where I saw that at. _____________________

I am sick of people complaining about the servers.
Just like everything else in the world there are going to be problems.. but unlike things that have nothing to do with the internet they won't be as bad (so to speak). Imagine having 100 people lined up and they are all trying to carry a load of 1,000 pounds on them at once.. passing it between them. The same goes with a server. Sooner or later one is going to start failing because the load is to much/heavy to handle. At that time there will be problems threw out the entire system because of that one server/person. With 50k of residents teleporting, buying things, rezzing things, playing with things, hanging out, logging in and out... doing whatever we all do within the grid that is allot of pressure on the servers. Its not perfect and you can't expect it to be perfect 100% of the time. |

However the servers need to cope with that, that's what people do. I think most reasonable people accept that sometimes things break, or that there's a need for downtime but if the servers aren't capable of supporting the userbase, it's unfair to blame users. Tips on how users can reduce load would be most welcome, as long as they're not presented in a finger pointing way, we've had enough of that with ARC and Openspaces. |

There actually is no such thing as a database that cannot be shut down. There are databases that will cost the companies millions and billions if they do shut down, so they pay tons to have all sort of redundancy in every aspect of their IT infrastructure -- but all servers, applications, databases, etc... can still be shut down. Got one at work here that can not be shutdown or it looses everything. This is not a typical setup. it uses ram instead of harddrive and is very very nice I think the lindens might employ some of that too but with NAS'S to backup concurrent info._____________________

If my systems go down because ONE server has a problem, then my ass is toast because I did not properly design the redundancy. With 50k of residents teleporting, buying things, rezzing things, playing with things, hanging out, logging in and out... doing whatever we all do within the grid that is allot of pressure on the servers. ETA - LL uses MySQL on Linux servers. That was posted in an article quite a while ago. _____________________

Actually a very large number of us work in IT and we know about proper design to manage load and growth and many of us have seen LL fail in this over and over and over again. Sorry, but the activity that goes on in SL is nothing compared to the amount of financial traffic that happens on some servers and networks, so it can be managed. It COULD be managed... if they replaced a few lindens and got rid of the tao of linden ... today being a great example of how well the tao works lol _____________________

I think the lindens need to put a crack down on the bots.. because it does hurt us "real" players. It isn't as easy as it sounds to just restart something LoL |
