I would gladly volunteer my time, if LL would give me full rights to walk and fly around SL and rid the place of helicopters in mid air, jets in the sides of buildings, naked prims thrown around like old sweat socks.
There's so much fugly crap laying around in abandoned 512's whose owners don't even appear in search any longer, surely they would love some us to clean this place up.
I have a wonderful mall that over looks a river bank, beyond is a plywood deck that's been sitting on abandoned property for probably a year, and yes i've reported it more than once.
Any one else up for garbage patrol??

As much as i wish i could do that, it sounds like a loss of liberties for the resident.

i have to agree with brianna O.0 and say shes right. I to think a pick up detail would be awesome an ive often wandered about all those stuck helicopters. I try to always go back and find mine if I get thrown or booted offline on a crossing. Sometimes I find them sometimes not. But at least I try.
on the Brianna side, how are you, (not brianna, the fictious garbageperson) to kno wI didnt place that choppper there for a reason?
Some of my properties have pegs in the air at various levels. jut a lonely loose peg prim. It looks lost. but be assured it has an important role in border and boundry setups. (im talking at 3-4K up)
but yeah... I hear your pain.
But then again some of the most fun ive had was searching old dumps for lost treasures. I've found a lot of old items lost to the depths of peoples sims. Some of the real old ones like 03/04 sims you can find stuff thats copy enabled. those are pricelss. Mmmhmm.
ahh memories.

I wonder if the OP might consider my silly looking platform at 4000 meters fugly. Or my friends platform I built for her at 3000 meters to have a place to call home. They are very low prim since I only have 512 meters and I want as many prims as I can possibly save so I can make prims skirts. Those platforms are just that.........platforms. Not a house, not a deck, just flat prims with a rail to keep me from falling off. Who is anyone to say my platforms need to be "cleaned up" by some do gooder "Garbage People in SL"?
You know, I might consider that "lovely mall overlooking a river" the fugliest thing imaginable. I think people need to mind their own business....stop imposing their desires on others.

Yes I would be up for that,I am sick and tired of crap that sits for years unused and forgotten.Accept for the poor ave that looks at this rubbish all day long and can't do diddle. For me if a place or object has not moved for 3 months ,then get rid and delelete the rubbish and be done with it.Not draconian in my opinion ,just common sense.

Wasn't OP talking about the lost and forgotten? At ground level there are all kinds of 'abandoned' plots that have a cornucopia of objects and prims that just take up resources.

The Lindens aren't real good about responding to ARs on the return of adfarms and multiple giant "For Sale" signs on currently owned property. I doubt they care about abandoned land either.

There's also a lot of squatting done by people selling copies of items without a license to so (ie, copyright infringement). Some "YardSale" moron came through my region and a few others along the same road some months back and set out a bunch of copied vehicles on any plot next to the road that had build on and no autoreturn.
I ARed all the ones in my region, and they were poofed eventually, but there are still a bunch of them all up and down the road. The copyright owner, or one of his agents eventually came around and put big white boxes on the ones that were left with a bunch of text about how they were infringing his works, and not to buy them, since the Lindens had been informed.
All in all, a serious mess. There are times where the Lindens could act to "clean up" some places, but they are often rare. How do you tell if a vehicle crashed into the side of an abandoned building is not meant to be there? Not to mention the amount of resources required to police the entire mainland regularly.

If the owner of the plot is still paying tier on the land, then you can't do anything about it.
If the owner of the plot is no longer an active member of SL, then why hasn't the land reverted to Governor Linden ownership? If so, should be an easy matter to have objects on that land auto-returned.

I had a sign on my plot for well over a year.........all it said was "Look up, look waaaay up!!" I suppose that would be "garbage" wouldn't it?
If the land is abandoned then submit a support ticket requesting it cleaned up. Then go about your business and get on with your life. I often wonder how one determines "abandoned land". I'm seldom on the ground at my plot.............someone could think it's abandoned but it isn't. Plus, what if I just decided to continue my premium membership but not log in for a year or more? Do you or anyone else have the right to "clean up" my land?
Sell your mainland and move to estate land if you want someone to "clean up the garbage".

If it's a stuck vehicle and it has "physics" enabled, there are always ways to make those items move. Just move them to another plot and have them autodelete!

OP wasn't talking about owned land, as far as I could tell. She specifically mentioned abandoned land, land in which the owners don't even show up in search anymore, implying their accounts had long gone to the big bit-bucket in the sky!

Hmm - my home has definitely been sitting there, not moved an inch, for more than three months -- as well as a few platforms I use for building.

I too had suggested this, but with a twist... those abandoned prims, i would send an IM to the owner, give them a chance to respond, unless they are no longer in world. Then i would im the land owner & ask if it was supposed to be there... if not.. then clean it up. would be a great deal of work yes, but after the initial sweep, the lower lag from the lost prims/scripts/vehicles etc would be massive i think. i do think that autoreturn should be mandatory on ALL linden owned land, especially abandoned.

SL does need garbagemen.
11-16-2009 19:01
As long as the garbageman's job description is limited to setting abandoned land to auto return and letting land owner's know the benefits of having personal land set as such.

"Implying their accounts had long gone the the big bit-bucket in the sky" . I believe there is an option to not be shown in search. And I also said to submit a ticket and move on.........which implies: "Mind your own business". Which, in my case, is exactly what I said.

If there were a "garbage person" in SL they would have to have "God perms." I am thinking LL knows if an account is active whether or not that account appears in search. As stated in a previous post I am for setting abandoned land to auto return and not messing around with owned land.

And you are willing to allow "volunteers" to have those "GOD" rights? Someone who might have an agenda to make their view of a "lovely mall on a river bank" more beautiful?
Submit a ticket and let LL sort it out..........and move on.
