I know, I know, there's likely nothing I can do. But, as I'm surrounded by wiser and more experienced minds, I'll throw it out here in case someone knows something I dont (highly likely).

I bought a video. It does not link to a movie, it links to a music video. L800 for this POS. (Yes, I know, hire the handicapped, I'm looking for work.) ... I dropped the vendor owner a notecard explaining that the thing I got was busted. He got it. No word back, and no refund.

I dropped another notecard. Never found out if he got it, so either Im muted or he hasn't logged on to get it - but it's been close to a month now. I'm likely muted. I sent an IM the other day, and AR'd the vendor.

I know darn well that AR isn't going to do a darn thing for me. If I can't get my 800 back, I would settle for 800 worth of amusement at this tard's expense without getting myself in hot water in the process. Suggestions?

Yeah, what, $3 or so? That doesn't make it OK to steal it.

Nope. It doesn't - but it's also the price of a coffee - is it worth being so unhappy about?

I think that if the text used in such an information campaign is a straight factual description of what happened, and does not include any vitriol or colourful language, then any accusation of harassment would have less weight.

Did you test it in a normal browser to see if it runs? If it runs in quicktime in a normal browser, it's not him, it's your setup.

What music video did you purchase? Maybe he's been blocked by the IP owner?

I am guessing from the OP's first post, that they did not buy a music video, they bought a movie video, or so they thought
when they played it, it ended up being a music video

to the op, unfortunately there is not much you can do, you can report, but as the TOS states LL doesn't get involved in res to res disputes :(

you could tell your friends about this person, thus warning them not to purchase because the item is not what is advertised (or at least not what you thought it was)

did they specifically say it was a movie? or did it just simply say video?

Ghostly I feel your pain.
And as also fellow handicap guy on fixed income loosing 800L or 10k here and there is big blow on my ability to enjoy myself here.
Yes I have made mistakes and lost a whole lot of money over period of time but each time
it has been lesson, sometimes a painful one.
People aren't always well intentioned nor ethical.
Only suggestion is don't buy things from people and products that you don't have close friends who have used those products or services can recommend them, or risk losing money using those services and products.
There really not much else to do, if they don't provide what you paid for.
I am so sorry about this.

Indeed, I read that wrong. Still could be an IP issue though.

Most of my associates think I am crazy to be watching feature films in a video game - but I cannot help it - I LOVE movies. SO I have spent quite a few bucks trying to find the best service. So far two are good. Lightening Video and MaePPV Pay-Per-View Video Public. These two have actual licenses to share these films with you - and everyone you want can view these films as long as you like. No limited bandwidth to only people on a guest list - no expiration date. If a Link dies they fix it immediately. The rest were more trouble than they were worth.

Get used to it. This is Second Life's finest [so called "designers'] at their best.

I'm surprised you didn't get a response of his/her IM's were capped. Oh, yeah. This is their favorite cheap excuse.

Trust me, there will be alot more just like this one.

I'm certain that any company renting popular movies in SL does not have the permission to do so. They are merely selling people the 'rights' to watch pirated movies.

How can somebody selling links to pirated movies be called a designer??

A good listener, a good interpreter needs but a few words to understand what's being said. Therefore, an entire picture, diagram doesn't have to be drawn.

Folks, I lost track of this thread. After reading everything posted:

1. It was clearly marked as a movie, not a music video.
2. The script inside is No Mod, so I cant see the URL that way. I never thought to look at my land settings, though.
3. There's nothing wrong with my setup, I watch movies all the time. I've watched several since buying this broken object.
4. I'm not up for doing anything that can get me AR'd.
5. There is no rule against posting SLurls, so:
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Angara/201/59/532
... what happens in Angara, stays in Angara, I don't wanna know about it. :)

I'm not recommending anyone go there and hang a prim turd on his vendors ... I'm recommending this is not a place you want to spend your money. That's all.

*bump*

"Lv movies are now watermarked with the LV logo, use or distribution of our movies will be reported to Linden Labs."

If they had a proper license they wouldn't go running to LL (who wouldn't care since movies are hosted entirely outside of SL), they'd be contacting the movie studios they license the movie from.

And tell them what, exactly? An avatar in SL is abusing their bandwidth? Reselling their links? What can a movie studio do about someone in SL? They are interested in RL persons, and the vendor likely has no information on that whatsoever.

Contacting LL would be prudent.

I seem to recall that there is a new abuse category dealing with people not delivering the goods they are selling????
