From: Ghosty Kips I sure hope it's worth the pixels it's printed on. I'm going to use it, even if it is an overly-elaborate twit-filter. Sorry, but it won't be worth the pixels it's printed on as it's unlikely that new Abuse Report categories would have much of an effect as the problem isn't proper categorization but a chronic failure to /resolve/ abuse reports. It doesn't matter how many or how few rules or guidelines there are if Linden Lab staff is either unwilling (or unable) to enforce them.

From: Kitty Barnett *bump* "Lv movies are now watermarked with the LV logo, use or distribution of our movies will be reported to Linden Labs." If they had a proper license they wouldn't go running to LL (who wouldn't care since movies are hosted entirely outside of SL), they'd be contacting the movie studios they license the movie from. I bet that if anything legalish ever happened, a very good lawyer could take advantage of the fact that there is no such company as "Linden LabS".

Well, it could well be that the catagories might help matters in that regard ... or separate the wheat from the chaff more effectively (which is what I'm suspecting). It has to be a lot easier to handle reports that have already been labled as one thing or another, instead of relying on some staff member to make a judgement call as to what the abuse problem is before they can even start resolution. Mislabled reports will likely hit the bit bucket. Meh. Doesn't help me right now anyway.

From: Jesse Barnett I seem to recall that there is a new abuse category dealing with people not delivering the goods they are selling???? There is and there isn't. Since the GTeam indicated that its policy on resident-resident disputes didn't change and that they'd examine the two new categories that deal with those and remove them it I'd guess some Linden added the categories without consulting them.

From: Ghosty Kips And tell them what, exactly? An avatar in SL is abusing their bandwidth? Reselling their links? What can a movie studio do about someone in SL? They are interested in RL persons, and the vendor likely has no information on that whatsoever.
Contacting LL would be prudent. Video is streamed directly from a site to your puter, the SL grid isn't involved in it so there's nothing for LL to care about and (mis)use of an URL is a resident-resident dispute. As far as ripping their movie stream, uploading it somewhere else and reselling copies: again the content isn't hosted on SL but somewhere else and LL doesn't own the rights to the movie so there's nothing for it to care about. If someone violates the copyright of content you purchased an official license to, it"s in your own interest to report the violation to the copyright owner and let them take the action they feel is warranted. In turn it's in the copyright owner's best interest to follow up on infringement because otherwise noone would buy licenses if they can get away with it for free.

It's one thing to copy a movie and watch it - a whole 'nother ball of wax to copy it and then sell it. What really amazes is that they then have the nerve to threaten action if you do the same with their stolen 'content'. These types of companies are no better than people who steal content in SL and resell it, yet people continue to give them their $L. Really rather amazing that they are still getting away with this. I guess this means that there are plenty of people who just don't care about content theft, which is probably one reason that the problem continues to grow.
