I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

With many people entering their first rental purchase or land purchase, its near impossible to get homework done on anything/everyone, especially with all the people playing.

LL should protect the players. They want to make this like real life. If this was rl and someone stole 10400$ from me (not linden $, but lets pretend US $), they would be in major trouble, or dead.

People like the two involved in this scam should be weeded out, to IMPROVE the SL community.

It takes little work at all to find information about a whole lot of interesting things in SL. The OP knew to come to the forums to ask for help after the fact, so we can only assume they could have done a very quick search on the topic of rental and been given a swathe of information that would have expanded their awareness of what they might have been getting into.

You don't think that any new residents should take responsibility for their own actions? You feel any new resident is owed the taking of hands and leading by noses?

I'm sorry but that just leads to a dependent society. Funny isn't it that that's the direction SL is heading. More and more people saying why doesn't LL do something. Do something about our own choices?

Hopefully, a lesson learned, harsh though it may be. There is one less 'new' resident who will blindly stumble through SL not even trying to find for themselves the knowledge that might help them to help themselves.

Maybe everyone should join the Scam artist business in this game, it seems quite profitable and since LL cant/wont do anything for clients, well.. whats the harm?

No but you can just be a little careful when dealing with financial transactions. A little patience and common sense will help immensely.

A few questions asked here, along with a search or two will go a long way to gtting that homework done. Don't just rush in and buy land your first day inworld.

i dunno people are so unwilling to take responsibility for their own actions. act like a matuer adult that you are, and do your homework before you invest. the end.

Oh yeah baby! Yeah!

To the OP: I am sorry this happened to you. I wish LL would make a qualified landlord program.

When I was new I wouldn't have known who to trust either. This is not your fault, it is the fault of the jerk that ripped you off.

I am all for shouting their name from the Mountain Top when they do this kind of thing. Sadly, you can't do that here. There are third party Second Life forums where you can though. People like that land owner need to be exposed so hopefully someone else knows and is safe from being scammed. LL won't do a thing except collect the tier from the landlord and look the other way. So it is up to residents to spread the word when this kind of thing happens.

You have my sympathy.. I wish I could tell you it is not common or that LL cares, but it is very common and LL doesn't.

I hope you find a good place with a good landlord.

Good luck.

Great advice. If LL did not make it seem so important to get some land right out the gate more of this could be prevented.

I was scammed a time or two in The Sims Online. I learned there not to trust anyone until I knew them real well and seen their reputation flesh out.

Hard lesson for the OP to learn, but I bet it is the last time she goes through it.

LL doesn't really push for land. they glamorize it along with a bunch of other stuff. it's all one big heap of advertising. i see the push for first bling and some wacky mouse navigator thingy more than buying land.

How did the landlords “scame” OP?

How did the landlords “scame” OP?

I’m sorry but all I see is some one (the OP) that throw all caution to the wind and did not use common sense in any way, shape or form, and then started to complain when they did not what they thought they paid for.

There are a million reasons not to start out by paying a year worth of rent. Apart from actual scams, you might not have liked the community; maybe the girl next door decided she wanted you. Maybe some one liked to hold really huge parties filling up the sim. Maybe, maybe, maybe…

Always rent for a short period, until you know the community and your surroundings. Then you can become a long term renter is you like the place.

All the landlord did, as fare as what I can read from the OP post, was false or misleading advertising at best.
How many lesbians does it take to make a lesbian community? Did it say exclusive lesbians?

The OP did not do her homework or used common sense and then decided to argue for 3 days whit the landlord, that most likely don’t think they did anything wrong.

I’m kinder surprised that they did wait 3 days before banning the OP.

There are no “scame” here only the OP not understanding what she paid for and as others have commented SL is for adults so start acting like one.

I’m sorry you got burned but maybe you will learn some thing from it and use at least a little caution next time..

here are few ways you can make it hurt:

1. go to third party forums and name names
2. create a strategic classified outlining what happened. then anyone searching for land to rent can read about what a greedy pig they are.
3. get a small piece of land and make sure it is set to show in search. make a creative name and explain what a thieving bastard they are in the parcel description. then rez and many prims there as possible and set them all for sale and make them searchable. then name each one things like 'land rental', 'property rental', also name some after his business and his avatar. this way when people 'search all' your story will come up in the listings ;)

-----------

It's against Second Life Forum Guidelines.

I don't recommend anyone take the advice of someone who thinks it's a good idea to harass others -- behavior that can get folks banned, from the Forums and from Second Life as a whole.

There is no evidence of a scam. We are only getting one side of this story. Who can say that everything the OP is saying is true?

And that would be griefing and anyone doing things like that should be AR and banned from SL.

I still don’t see what the OP’s landlord did wrong. I can only imaging 3 days of arguing with the OP especially if the landlord did nothing wrong other that misleading or incomplete advertising.

I personally would not have put up with that for 3 days before banning the OP, but I don’t rent out land so I don’t need to put up with bade behavior.

And what about competitors? Creating alts, make fights and use third party websites to name and shame? Easy isn't it? Now you are the target. Same thoughts about it?

if the landlord did not refund, that is sleazy and that is wrong.
i have rented land and i have ALWAYS refunded people no matter what the reason. i even refunded the tool that tried to adcut a private estate!
for the record, i have done those things above and it is not griefing.
you all tell this girl to research, educate herself and so on, this is a means for her to educate others, and help people with that research :)

couldnt care less.
feel free to do whatever you want, my reputation and referrals are greater than classified and search.
if she was removed from the land and was not refunded, yes she was ripped off. everyone is telling her 'too bad, so sad'. i am suggesting some avenues of recourse. believe it or not, ppl really dont have to swallow and smile.

You have gotten lucky on items 2 and 3, they most assuredly are harassment.

As for refunds, the landlord is well within his rights to not refund any money. But it sounds like over half of it was refunded.

I won't do anything. I am talking about how easy it is to name and shame.

3 days ago we had a new tenant. He demanded a free day after he paid the rental box. You know why? In his eyes we were 5 minutes too late with sending him a group invite (no joke). We gave him a refund and wished him well after he sent rude messages. I agree to refund to avoid any problems. What if he is mad and shouting on the forums that he is ripped off. Adjusting his juicy story here and there and half SL is joining him. Is that fair? I think it's fair when there is PROOF :)
