We had JUST rented for a year in a community that was advertised as a "Private Lesbian community" paid full in advance, 10400. We rented it for the entire year and once we realized that this was not a lesbian community, my partner and I asked for a refund. There was no convenant in this commmunity that told us there were no refunds to be given. We ask for a refund and one manager refuses to even speak to us, while the other is trying to tell us how it is mostly/partly lesbian and many other excuses.

It is not the same and we tell her thus. This is after 3 days of arguing with them, and then tonight the manager who never talks to us, bans us from the land parcel and kicks us from the group. No refund.

The two of them have stolen 10,143$L from us. We should not have been banned without a refund (we were only asking for a refund on the remaining 355 days left, we were not cocerned with the days that we had spent there). Who do we report this to.

Unfortunately, LL will not get involved in these type of disputes between residents. The is not really anything you can do.

No one. Linden Lab will not get involved in Resident-to Resident disputes. Sorry.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

As far as I know, no one at Linden Labs will assist you in getting your money back for the time you rented. Its a horrible answer, I know, but they wont get involved in resident to resident issues such as this. Always be very very careful when looking for a place to rent from. Some are absolutely fabulous, others, eeeh not so much. Good luck.

They just robbed me of 10,143L$, they are scammers. How is it they can ban/eject me from MY property i rented for a year, with no reason?

Because they own it or are acting on behalf of the person who does...unfortunately, they don't need a reason other than that.

That's the problem,it's not YOUR property. It's theirs. Private rentals are always a risk.
I have to say that I am kind of shocked that any landlord would take a years worth of rent(or that anyone would pay that to be honest.) A lot could happen in a year...

Because, unfortunately, while you rented it, they own it. A private sim owner can do ANYTHING they wish. LL will not get involved. It sucks, but it is the way of things in SL, at this point in time.

Cases like this tend to be the exception and not the rule. So until this problem becomes more widespread like the banking scandals did, I would not expect any policy changes from LL about this.

Amazing that this game which tries to simulate RL so much, allows someone to steal and scam another individual out of $40 USA dollars.

That's the Problem. It simulates Real Life...too much, and gets more so each day.

Along with what Ann said, check your transaction history for that transaction number here:

https://secure-web13.secondlife.com/account/index.php?lang=en

That should direct you to your account summary page, you may need to go back to whatever day it happened - and do it soon, it's only the last 30 days of transactions.

If you don't have a matching transaction number, then by all means file a support ticket to see what's going on.

$L 10400 for a year? That's $L 200 a week, very modest for a year of occupancy almost anywhere. I take it you had 100ish prims or about that? A very cosy setting for two people, or a fantastic deal if you got much more than that. Quite unusual for anyone to take a year's occupancy in advance for a prim allotment that small. Perhaps am I missing something? Not saying it's good or bad, just really, really different.

Very sorry to hear what happened to you. This is one of the rather large drawbacks to private estates; there is little justice to be had over a disputed 40 USD bill, whomever might be in the right.

I'd try to assist you myself but I don't have openings, and even if I did the smallest parcels in Caledon are near double that weekly rate.

But I have seen Alliez and some of the other decent land barons step in once in a while and find a good home for people; perhaps it won't be ideal but at least some of your faith in humanity might be restored.

Best of luck.

/me is a little tired of hearing SL/LL being blamed for the user base not doing their homework.

Why should they get involved in resident to resident disputes when it is the choices made by these residents that get them into situations in the first place.

Do your homework, just as you would, or should, on any other internet 'site' you wish to interact with in any way that means losing something of value to you.

This might seem hard but omg people take some responsibility, please.

You do have to exercise caution. It is real money you are spending.

Besides Desmond, there are a few landlords here who have excellent reputations. Perhaps one of them will be able to assist you in finding a place.

With many people entering their first rental purchase or land purchase, its near impossible to get homework done on anything/everyone, especially with all the people playing.

LL should protect the players. They want to make this like real life. If this was rl and someone stole 10400$ from me (not linden $, but lets pretend US $), they would be in major trouble, or dead.

People like the two involved in this scam should be weeded out, to IMPROVE the SL community.

I disagree that this should be LL's responsibility. I read the TOS before opening my account, so I knew LL would not get involved in disputes between users. I also did research elsewhere, including the forums, and got the scoop on landlord obligations, i.e., they are obliged to do whatever they want. Anyone who speaks English can do this research easily.

Part of the problem is the perception that SL is a game, as if there are set rules and an umpire or something. The TOS make it clear that it is an environment. People make what they want here. within certain limits. It's also telling that many of those limits are ones imposed from outside of LL, such as the gambling ban.

LL makes the environment, the residents make the society.

I'm not thrilled to hear that someone has been ripped off, but in any environment one must know the hazards. It's part of that whole over-18 thing.

Maybe everyone should join the Scam artist business in this game, it seems quite profitable and since LL cant/wont do anything for clients, well.. whats the harm?

This is exactly what scares me the most.

Sooner or later, I'm scared the scammers will ruin it for everyone, by causing such harsh regulation that honest landlords and residents end up paying the price.

Kind of like the way the credit card industry absorbs fraud. Ick.
