Here's a thing I don't remember seeing before:

Take a look at this:

Giving out your password is a violation of TOS.

What does one make of this?

What would happen if this was a new trend in misbehavior?

LOL! "Please exploit me"!!

First person to sign in to that account can just change the password and take the money, thus satisfying the exploitation. What an "experiment"!

Lol! Left the relevant quote from section 2.4 of the ToS on his blog comments. To whit:

"You may not transfer your Account to any third party without the prior written consent of Linden Lab; notwithstanding the foregoing, Linden Lab will not unreasonably withhold consent to the transfer of an Account in good standing by operation of valid written will to a single natural person, provided that proper notice and documentation are delivered as requested by Linden Lab."

She's got an interesting photo album so far. Also, an eclectic group membership and Landmarks folder. *snicker*

Section 2.3 of the TOS says it's acceptable to share your account but you are responsible

From: someone
At the time your Account is opened, you must select a password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and are responsible for any harm resulting from your disclosure, or authorizing the disclosure of, your password or from use by any person of your password to gain access to your Account or Account Name. At no time should you respond to an online request for a password other than in connection with the log-on process to the Service. Your disclosure of your password to any other person is entirely at your own risk.

Hmmm FireEyes, personally I do not read that section as saying that it is acceptable to share your account. I read it as a simple disclaimer of responsibility for damage by LL, in the event that you personally choose to disclose your password (effectively transferring control of an account to another person).

I read the passage I quoted as LL establishing further that, if you do share an account, it is completely within LL's right to cancel the account, in fact to cancel all your accounts, with subsequent loss of any assets those accounts may hold. That is, deny you service.

In this case, the person sharing the account may not care, of course!

wait, did the TOS just contradict itself??? that never happens.

I would *assume* that if an account is logged into by too many different geographically disperse IP's in a short period of time it gets shut down. That's fairly standard practice with most online service providers. But then again with LL who knows.

It wouldn't be fair of LL to keep people from sharing their account with people they trust. I've known people to temporarily grant account access to one or two trusted people to handle their business and customers while they must be away from their computer, such as for surgery. I see that as one way to be a responsible business owner and not leave the customers hanging for weeks on end. You'd be surprised how few of my own customers (for instance) pay attention to my important group notices, and most don't bother to be in the group at all. Many people don't bother to read notes on profiles either, so a huge "I will be gone from this date to this date" doesn't always help either. I, personally, don't have others use my account when I'm away and just do the best I can with the afore mentioned alternatives, but I don't look down on those who do choose to delegate authority.

there's a slight difference between giving someone the keys to your house while on vacation, and posting the combination to your safe on a blog. "discretion" is a critical factor. not to mention common sense...

QFT

Not to mention there are other ways to give "managers" the ability to manage your store or other business without requiring them to log into your account.

Well as a direct social experiment I think it's great. And will probably try and log in to see what she has been up to. And obviously this person does not want to get their avie back. But yes, if they contacted the Lindens and arranged for a no password option, or somehow make it totally public, a bit of press, I think that's intreguing. But sadly people may just switch her password and that is the end of that.

seems the account still exists and no one has changed the pw yet.

I find this "experiment" more interesting than I prolly should. But I think this account actually says alot about the "SL is full of crooks" cries. No one has bothered it. Surely the "cesspool" that is SL this account should have been hyjacked by now...

I didn't go "in world" with her tho so I don't know about the L$ balance.

Drat!! Vamp killed her!

Prolly sucked her blood then took her lindens. Left her naked and bleeding somewhere near Ahern.

Vamp!! How could you?

OK Mac, I have to come clean....the "flying penises at keynote speakers" thing is wholly intriguing. First, I always thought they were "peni" (long "i"--no pun intended) when there were more than one. Now while that alone is a true "poser" for me, it's the means of catapulting that is most capturing my limited ability to focus after midnight (yeah, I know I have six minutes, but it's my biological clock I'm talking about here). So please share (the means of lobbing the peni, not the peni).

I tell you what. I will send you a link for a youtube video to your PM (if you accept PMs) in just a few minutes that will show you the basis for my joke.

It is truly a proud moment in Second Life history starring everyone's favorite land barroness, Anshe Chung. :D

Her hubby has had it removed due to "copyright infringement" so in respect of that and for the PG rating of the forum, I will send it. :D

I'm completely breathless with anticipation (ish). ;) I have to confess, however, that even the mention of "she who should not be named" sent a shiver up my rather jellyfish-like spine.

ROFLMAO! OMG Mac, my neighbors want your address--I just woke up everyone on the block chortling and gagging while trying to restrain myself from busting a gut. That is the single most amusing thing I've seen in a very long time. Bring on the birthday bash...I'm now planning to attend every speech--just in case.

well some dufus left the pw taped to his monitor. Seriously tho, I didn't change it. But drawing attention to it on the forums may have brought out the unimaginative. I had figured the "it's just too easy" factor might keep anyone with an ounce of self respect at bay. Clearly SL is a cesspool of losers. :(
