From: Smoke Gordonstone It's reminding me of L.O.R.D. and the old bbs days.
Please someone tell me I'm not the only one who knows that game. I don't remember that one. Perhaps we should all play a nice game of Horace Goes Skiing instead.

From: Conan Godwin You must not be old enough to have played these sorts of games.
There are conventions in how to give commands; first, there are certain commands that they usually recognise; go, get, pick up, say, speak, tell, wear and use. Next, the objects in the game have a name which must be combined with a command.
So your line "tell him how you got it" doesn't work because there is no "him" and no "it". "Tell innkeeper about noob" is the sort of response a primitive program like the understands (not that modern software is any smarter). See, you combined a command it understands with objects it has a name for. makes sense.

Don't feel bad, Claire. I have no idea what Conan is going on about either.

I've played Horace too. LORD...Legend of the Red Dragon was a bbs text based rp game. Had the inn keeper and choice of staying in the rooms, talking with locals...all that stuff. You're story reminded me of that. It came out probably about 5 years after Horace did.

Reminds me of the text games Hitchhiker's Guide, Leisure Suit Larry, Bureaucracy, et al. Those things were so frustrating sometimes.

From: Conan Godwin Since when? I've been swearing like a longshoreman on here for two years. This is the first I've heard of it. since as long as I can remember. Have you read the forum guidelines? (I have not seen you swear before, if I had I would have reminded you then too) "Global Standards, Local Ratings All areas of Second Life, including the www.secondlife.com website and the Second Life Forums, adhere to the same Community Standards. Locations within Second Life are noted as Safe or Unsafe and rated Mature (M) or non-Mature (PG), and behavior must conform to the local ratings. Any unrated area of Second Life or the Second Life website should be considered non-Mature (PG)" and this thread also helps people to understand that yes the forums are PG (I have seen threads edited and the reason was that it was mature info, in a PG forum) /327/8d/138314/1.html

From: Conan Godwin What would you like to do? take out my secret machete i kept hidden in my noob boots and kill the annoying, repetitive narrator. then i cook and eat his fleshy leg over a warm fire created by lighting the remains of his bloody body on fire with what little parafin i have left. then, i sleep silently under the stars, a warm glow of fire to my cheek, as the beasts of the woods watch over me because they are too love-making afraid to love-make with me. the end.
