Well it looks like a bunch of kids and people dressed up as chickens will be turning up so it will quite likely be lots of fun - those who have worked hard to make it happen will not need to fear a wasted effort

I wonder about the timeframe when SL5B became LL5B? ;)

The Thursday before the first "clarification" blog posting.

Cool.

What I should do, too, is make a notecard of LMs specific to the kid-related spaces in SL5B, for those who want to see those, but don't want to otherwise explore the area.

I hope you'll stop by mine -- and be sure to check out the build by Loki across from it. It is simply amazing.

I was just getting ready to ask if someone was going to make a list of the kid created exhibits. I think this is a great idea and would love to get a copy. Maybe a notecard giver could be put up in Kids5B for those who want to check out parts of SL5B.

Also - on a kinda unrelated topic - does anyone know if there is a magazine in SL that is for kids? I have discoverd so much new stuff for kid and teen AVs in the last few weeks that I never know existed.

I'll put something together and at least have it at my exhibit in Kids5B.

I don't know of a specific one. I do a regular page in the Metaverse Messenger on kid stuff in SL, though. I know there's some blogs, a flickr stream or two (Second Childhood get the most traffic) and also the Milk N Kookies podcast, too.

Me too...and a SLURL for where your exhibit is Mari. Hmmm, now I just need a child AV. ;) Or a chicken costume as that seems to be popular.

Wonder what the attitude is toward furries - I already have one of those *wiggles eyebrows*

Orrrr....I could go in the new box AV found in the library. Or a Gorean. Gosh, the possibilities are endless :)

Well, my anticipation of the "Special Guest Speaker" just hit a 10 on the Meh scale.

From: someone
Linden Lab board member Mitch Kapor, who is founder of Lotus Development, will close out the event by speaking on July 7.

http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/12880-so-second-life-birthday-coverage.html#post276440

If the Big Announcement is as underwhelming as this is it was hardly worth a blog post.

I guess since I'm a newbie (only been here 18 months), I don't find Mitch Kapor underwhelming. I hadn't heard of him before this thread, but after Googling and reading a little bit, I think he has both great credentials to speak and some interesting points of view.

Perhaps the most interesting thing to me though is how he has a philosophical interest in transparency of processes- government processes, corporate processes, educator processes- is fundamental to having a society that's fair and inclusive to everyone.

Linden Labs as a company, and Second Life as a community, do not come close to matching Kapor's vision of fairness through transparent processes. Instead, Linden Labs and Second Life operate on secrecy and mystery.

I like what Kapor describes as his vision. I just don't see his vision reflected in Second Life.

I read a speech he gave in and about Second Life in August, 2006. For anyone who might attend his speech this time, it might be fun to compare the vision for the future of Second Life he had in August, 2006, with the way we've seen Second Life play out since then, and compare that with what he has to say in July, 2008.

http://www.3pointd.com/20060820/mitch-kapor-on-the-power-of-second-life/

So yeah, I'm very interested in hearing what Mitch Kapor has to say.

It probably won't inspire me to attend the event. But I'll definitely read the transcript afterwards.

Well, enjoy.

LL has used him so many times as a speaker that when some of us hear there will be a special guest speaker we are looking for something new, not someone who we have heard many times over. This will likely just be more of the same.

He was a pioneer with Lotus and an early investor/board member in LL.

If you are interested there are LOTS of articles on Mitch if you google him and second life.

Still gonna have to stick with my Meh moment. Would liked to have seen someone new talking for a change myself.
