Is there actually any point in going to this thing? We'll find out anyway what the important announcement is and it will probably just end up being a big lag-fest and screw up the asset server...

No, but I had no plan to do so before the brouhaha anyway. I'm not interested. In any case things like that are usually Lagfests for me, so it's a waste of time . Pretty much why I don't go to Hairfest. I might stop by the kidfest to support our little friends here even if just to stand in one spot and not do anything. :p

No.
I'm going to wait until everyone else is there and then go to their house to play with all their stuff.

Since some of the trouble surrounding SL5B has been about making avatar choices like mine invisible. I will refuse to let those efforts win. I will be there, in my main shape, and I will not be swept under the carpet. (>_<;)

I'll be there as an exhibitor, in Kid form. And also at Kids5B. I've been able to watch a lot of it being built, and there's some pretty fantastic stuff being set up.

I'll admit though, I usually stay far from such mega-gatherings, ust because they tend to be so laggy. Even now, with just the builders in the sims, there's so many textures that I am already experiencing some lag. Could be pretty bad with 30-40 avatars in a sim.

Yes, gonna definitely go. Our collective grid is 'bigger' than the drama of the day.

And nobody's changing anything by taking their ball and going home.

Definitely will be spending a decent chunk of time at Kids5B. I might even bring a few friends and trick them into doing the Transmorgifier.

Don't know how much time I'll spend on SL5B. I might spend some time hopping around. Maybe not.

Yeah, I think I will :o) I'll find a nice central spot to sit and cam around. If it get's too laggy, I'll just take a break. I imagine there will be a lot of cool people to meet there.
Let's just hope it doesn't turn into a spam fest full of notecards and tp points...or worse, grief laden!

Yeah, I expect to go, but I'll also attend Kids5B, and if there were already a Fringe Festival, I'd go to that, too.

And that's because the whole model for hosting and organizing these mega-events needs to evolve to match the growth of the grid and LL's generally hands-off style of scaling. They're right to worry about the "official" content of these events, and LL should really provide all that content itself, on a Concierge Party-like scale -- and just provide launching points to resident-run satellite regions where LL explicitly disavows any responsibility other than to enforce ToS/CS.

The Lindens may have very good business reasons for changing rules and policies in mid-stream--and if it's only their content that's affected, no residents even need to know. But it's asking too much of resident organizers and contributers to keep whacking them with moving walls and expect them to come back smiling each time.

I probably won't be going. This whole "back and forth, pay not attention to the Linden behind the curtain" thing has just drained away what little interest I had for this event.
