Well maybe I will go then - it would be a shame for so many to put so much effort in end then have it ignored by ppl.

Oh wait, am I even allowed to go there as a full time nudist?

I still cant go to SL5B, I detest being lied to. If I now attended I would be accepting being lied to, it wont happen.

Last few SL "events" I tried to attend were pretty much a waste of time and total lag fests. I'll pass on this one.

No. Well, I may be there at some point on a professional basis if something needs fixing, but not on a personal one.

I'd like to say that it is some sort of protest move, and I'm certainly still very cross about all the issues and it is part of the reason, but in actual fact I probably wouldn't have gone anyway - I didn't go to the last one, and I was only really at SL3B during the event to make sure the monorail worked properly, though riding around on that did give me a lot of time to see everything. It is mostly the lag to be honest. I am increasingly coming to the opinion that there needs to be a new structure for event organisation if they are going to survive, because at the moment the lag in them all is an absolute joke.

I have never run around as an SL kid before. But the whole scrap got my hackles up.

As an exhibitor, I can look around before the gates open and not suffer so much from the lag. I can report that the quality of builds is high. There is an exhibit of tiny tableaux pics that are not to be misssed. Also cool kinetic sculpture, and an excellent rl painter.

The dishonesty of LL is pretty slimey. But a lot of residents who had no part in the corporate betrayal put in a lot of work.

Loki Eliot's Second Life Children build in SL5B, regardless of all the issues and stuff, is not to be missed. It is quite easily one of the best builds I've seen at an SL birthday *or* a Burning Life. It is delightful and incredible. I've not seen anything else there that even comes close to it.

As far as overall events, though - Kids5B is really, really super good. An incredible collaborative effort pulled together in a short time. Kids5B is *the* must-see of the two events.

If you missed the several Blog posts in which they caled for entries, and haven't yet made an application and been accepted, they you are too late to be an exhibitor this time around. The deadline for the first week's Cultural exhibits was Thursday, June 5 at 6pm PDT, and that was after they extended it once. Exhibitors are supposed to have ther stuf done and ready to show by midnight on the 20th, and the SL5B event opens to the public on the 23rd.

They added a second week, from June 30 to July 7, that will feature exhibits from business, education, health care and nonprofits. Applications for that part closed June 10th.

If I thought this event would be truly "Resident created" event that would showcase Second Life's "communities’ traditions and signature characteristics," I might attend.

If this event were just merely a blatant corporate promotion of Second Life by Linden Labs, curiosity might still draw me to just see what they were doing.

Mostly, it seems like a Linden Labs's corporate promotion event, that Linden Labs is advertising as "Resident created" and riding off the volunteer work of some residents.

It doesn't really strike me as "Resident created," just because residents are doing most of the work, if residents don't have meaningful editorial control over what is exhibited and what isn't.

So no, I probably won't go, unless a friend of mine were exhibiting (I know of none at this point).

Besides, I don't have a child avatar. I think it would be wonderful irony if about 90% of the attendees were child avatars. Seems like it's shaping up that way.

Well as it's a two week long event the pitfalls of the concierge lag fest party should be avoided so it might be worth a look.

Will there be cake? This greatly influences my decision.

If both events have cake, which one has the best cake?

Yes, the initial week's exhibits will remain available in the second week. It's just that in the second week they will allow access to 4 or so additional sims of corporate or non-profit builds.

I honestly can't blame Toy or many of the others for staying away, though. I have to agree with Toy's sentiment that I love SL, but don't have the same feelings about LL itself. LL has some wonderful individuals, but as a company, they have a lot yet to learn...

I believe both events, SL5B and Kids5B, have a huge cake.

But Kids5B will also have popsicles an ice cream! Yay!

I just can't find it in my heart to condemn an event because it is restricted to PG content. I am a very sex positive person and I used to do rl BDSM play. And yet, I prefer to have some choice about being exposed to sexually explicit material. It affects me strongly. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for it. Sometimes it has an energy that is not comfortable for me. I don't like to come across it by chance.

It would be great if SL5B had some well marked mature rated sims and visitors could make a choice. I hope the future fringe festival will have that.

I worked very hard on my exhibit. I have ten other contributors, one of whom is a child avatar. I'm displaying everyones profile pics. I hope visitors will enjoy seeing their fabulous creations.

Maybe we should post someone at the TP landing point to hand out little avatar shapes to everyone that arrives to make that a reality. (^_^)

I've been to a couple of these. My general experience is it'll be flashmobbed (requiring a couple hours to get anywhere near the sim).

So I'll probably watch the recap on YouTube.

If I had a kid avatar I'd go as the kid, and make a point of standing next to adults. Particularly Lindens. And most especially Everett Linden if he had the temerity to show up.

But I only have adult avatars, so I won't be going because the stupidity, the arbitrary discrimination, and the bad faith shown by agents of LL has left too much of a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd follow all The Lindens around, pooping in my my pants all day long...."Mommy. Look. I made."

I might even put on a kid avatar
