I wonder what would happen if I did 30 minutes of aerobics while staring at boobies.

i think this should be tested. purely for scientific research, of course.

"No, we are not over-emotional!"

"Oh, OK then, we are over-emotional sometimes."

"And yes, it does make us less able to deal rationally with things."

"And actually that's a very good thing."

"And of course, everything is OK because afterwards we apologise for our hysteria."

Pep (A precis of recent "female" posts. Please keep making my argument for me.)

If this is a sample of the kind of "précis" you produced in university, it is no wonder that you have since decided to focus upon the nuts-and-bolts of grammar, rather than upon the content of what people here are saying.

Usually, a précis is expected to tell us something about what is being summarized: this, on the other hand, merely has "PEP" writ in large hand across it.

C-

Please avoid the use of dysphemism and hyperbole in your future efforts, as a précis is intended to do more than reproduce the biases of the summarizer.

That doesn't tell her how to fix her car though.

I have no idea what you just said....but I agree. Once he starts picking away at your content....you know that you've broken his heart. Be gentle.

Oh, fear not Mickey. I'm always gentle. That's why I gave him a C- (rather than the D he so richly deserves). :D

/me facepalms.

No, Pep, none of us said any of those things.

That is not a precis. It is a paraphrase, and an inaccurate one. A true paraphrase does not alter the meaning or intent of what was said.

You have yet to respond to Scylla's polite and logical requests for data to support your position.

Hey...here is a good chance for you to try out the interpersonal skill I gave you instruction in earlier in the thread.

Let's see if you were paying attention.

So, I bring a few facts to the party, open up the possibility of a cognitive discussion and ...

nothing.

Sorry Jenshae. My last post was inspired by your factual foray. For me, it really affirmed my propensity for everything female, so much so that I have admitted myself into a program for recovering misogynists (Scylla should be pleased). It also helped me to appreciate the relative significance of cognitive discussion. The world of feeling is wonderfully liberating...

I'm a cry-er too. It doesn't take much, and some things ALWAYS trigger it, like hearing Taps. When I was in college I worked for a funeral home, my dad was a funeral director there; it quickly became understood, do NOT send Treasure to work a military funeral, soon as Taps starts, she's useless......

Sometimes I cry for no apparent reason. In bed at night, driving in my car, thinking about the passage of time, listening to music, remembering, contemplating the vastness of space, solitude. And sometimes I cry for obvious reasons, my football team loses, no beer in the fridge, no chips. Sometimes I cry just to cleanse my eyes. I heard it was a natural way to remove impurities...

On the contrary, I think I extracted the essence of the content, and made my point succinctly, and if I could be bothered I could point to the original posts which I have summarised for those too lazy to read.

Pep (I am surprised you did not suggest I was being cacophemistic, actually.)

Can't you find the sarcasm smily? Or is it a case of backpedalling at the speed of sound? That's the trouble with using a language in which you are not sufficiently proficient - you have made yourself look even more foolish.

ah, yes....the overwrought emotional response, whining and stomping feet again....picking away at "content".....just as I described to Scylla. (predictable) There, there Mr. Mensa....settle down....

Your tenuous grasp of English is obviously slipping even further. Sarcasm (and its subset, irony) is not discernible from simple text without additional information, usually provided by non-verbal cues in rl, which are lacking in forums such as this, hence the provision of a smily to assist in communication. Otherwise, you end up looking foolish . . .

Pep ( . . . which you do, persistently.)

PS "Content"? What content? I was criticising your lack of presentation skills.

I almost understood this post . . .

There, there, Mr. Mensa. I promise to use the appropriate cartoon characters for you, so that you may interpret.

Congratulations! You are making yourself look even more foolish with each of your posts.
