From: Lear Cale I love the sentiment, even if I disagree with the economic philosphy. One of my favorites, and I sing it a lot! (I love gospel, too, even though I'm not religious.) I hate Imagine. Sorry, but it's true. Lennon's preaching homogeny here, which is just tedious. No countries? No religion? Everyone living for today? No possessions? What a boring fucking world. We might as well bow down to Wal-Mart and eat McDonald's for all eternity. The drive to create, to improve, to compete, is what makes us human. Not ants in a single huge seething colony. *shudder*

Our individualism, quest for knowledge, success, and even glory are among our greatest traits, and yes our worst at times. But I would not want to live in a everyone is biege, dronelike world. I think it may happen, but fortunately after I am gone I think.

Knowing Lennon's Penchant for Sarcasm and satire, it would be more fitting than the Utopian Dream many make that song to be about. Besides, I'm still trying to figure out the meaning behind "And Your Bird Can Sing".

From: Lexxi Gynoid Bird=woman woman=Yoko Ono I think that came out before he was involved with "That Woman". I always thought it was a swipe at Mick Jagger, meaning he and The Beatles would always overshadow The Stones

First concert I attended was for Huey Lewis & the News.

From: Teeny Leviathan Only if you voted FOR the idiots in charge or decided not to vote at all. What if you voted for only some of the idiots in charge? What if the your idiots lied to you? What if your country has a system where you only have two parties to pick from and they are both idiots? Etc.

From: Nina Stepford wow nobody has even considered voting for a third party? lemmings. I vote third party about 80% of the time. No real chance of them winning. Effectively, I have as much influence on the outcome of an election as someone who did not vote.

From: Nina Stepford owls and wombats both piss as well, but they dont share all that much in common with me hey. I know this is pedantic, but owls don't piss. Owls (like all birds) have a single orifice for both intestinal and urinary excretion--a cloaca. Thus what comes out of an owl is neither feces or urine, unlike what would exit a wombat. That's today's Moment of Nature. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I don't have issues with nationalities. I have issues with foreign governments who, by way of legislation passed by people I did not vote for, and could not vote for, interfere or even ptoentially interefere, with my pleasure. I have the same issue when my own government intereferes..but that at least I can participate in.
So when the government of the fundamentalist moral democratic republic of outer south slobovia passes a law that says no sex in public, and LL says-public sex violates the law somewhere, so its not allowed in SL; well I get resentful.

You are allowed to have sex in public places where you live? Don't think I fancy going round the local supermarket and finding people going for it over the freezers

Besides, I'm still trying to figure out the meaning behind "And Your Bird Can Sing". I think it was about a Utopian dream, though, to be honest ... I don't think the song was sarcastic or satirical. Which is its main danger. Utopias are not only wish thinking, they are often disastrous monstrosities. They fly in the face of human nature, which is plain enough for everyone to see now based on the process of how life evolved on this planet. The urge for a utopia, is the urge to opt out of the unpleasantness implied by a reality that has been forged on the basis of competition -- something which people associate with capitalist ideology, but in reality has its roots in our genetic evolution, it seems to me. Trying to swim against that stream leads to many many problems, and yet there is always a certain segment of society that would prefer that to the unpleasantness of reality as it is.
