You know i am really tired of all the nationality bashing

Generalizing us all under the area we come from is just wrong and we all know it. We are all people.. not responsible for what our government does or does not do lol. All differerent from each other, no matter if we are from the same country or different. I have made friends here from all over the world.. and guess what.. we are noooo differernt from each other. We get up.. go to work.. pay our bills.. lol our taxes.. eat meals.. hey, we all even use the bathroom, *gasps* i do not see a country distinction in who we are.

The ones that point and say EUROPEAN or AMERICAN i think should take a long hard look at themselves, do you also point and say CATHLOIC or BUDDHIST ?? Probably.. and i am thinking you all need to take a long hard look at your own predjutices.

Guess what guys.. WE ARE ALL THE SAME.

Keera, you beat me to it as I was just going to post a very similar thread. There has been an awful lot of finger pointing lately.....Jaysus, who gives a rat's ass where in the world you come from???? It's beginning to sound a lot like a 'Them Against Us' kind of thing. America is a giant melting pot of cultures from all over the world, as is Ireland now, so many different nationalities, which in my opinion is a wonderful thing.

Not voting is a legitimate choice. Why give your consent to one of two evils? By not voting you can be saying "I remove my consent from the government." Remember the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Or if you live in a backwater nation like the US where even if you didn't vote for the idiots in charge, your vote got changed or lost. :(

Not necessarily so. In some democracies, there is the option of the write-in vote. Sure the write-ins rarely ever win, but at least its still a vote.

I am in the United States, but where I am at, the Evil party and the Stupid party have stacked the system so that write in votes are not counted unless the write in candidate files forms with the state before the election and pays a fee.

I've had to vote on Diebold voting machines since 2002. I have found that every time I went to the polling place, there were always the ones ahead of me who just stared at the machines, head cocked on an angle looking like Nipper listening to his master's voice for 15 minutes while the poll workers had to help them figure out how the things work. Needless to say, I don't have much confidence in electronic ballots.

Oh come on Keera nationality bashing is as old as, well nationalities. Sometimes it goes overboard, we get into rounds of "My country is better than your country". This is a chicken and egg situation.

Sometimes it's just a bit of banter. We all know when we reflect on it, that it was silly to get involved.

There's an unwritten rule that it's ok for someone from their own country to bash it, but people go on the defensive if someone from another country makes those criticisms.

Worst of all is how at times it's managed to side the English with the French. Nelson and Napolean will be turning in their graves. Of course all that will change in a few hours when the rugby starts!

Sorry but I can't go along with that way of thinking. Not voting does not deny consent to the lesser of two evils........it's saying that you just don't care at all. If you don't care and you don't vote (read that as commitment) then you have lost any legitamate right to bitch or complain about your government. And it's exactly that attitude that perpetuates "the lesser of two evils" you point out. In this country (the United States) it is certainly your right to not vote if you so choose.........but it is also not the best choice if you are at all concerned with the actions of your government. Not voting very simply tells the existing government that you have no problems with it. Exactly the opposite of what you just told me. Stand up and make a choice.........a real choice, not just telling everyone that it's not your fault because you didn't vote of anything.

Sad to say that the evidence is mounting that Diebold and friends are intentionally making systems easily manipulated. Not withstanding the CEO of Diebold writing "I am committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president."* in a 2003 fundraising letter (Diebold is Ohio based), there are also studies that show that these machines are less secure than an unpatched WinXP connected to the internet surfing pr0n**.

It is funny that I was told (apocrophally?) as a youth that the Soviet Union pretended to have elections which were already pre-decided and therefore the US system was better. Pfft.

Sorry Peggy, with the stacked deck we have in today's elections.voting does not matter. You can take any of the top 3 canididates from either of the two main parties and the policies will stay the same. More war, higher taxes, more government control of our lives. Anyone who would change this is ignored or disparaged by the main stream media, see the treatment Ron Paul is given.

If I remove my consent, then it is no longer my government.

The deck is so stacked against a third party in the US, that it is akin to not voting. Or I should say a second party, since the Republicans and Democrats are two sides of the same coin.

and if every person that thought like you 'wasted' your vote on a third party you would have a president that was neither democrat or republican.

Rigged elections are par for course. LBJ was elected to the House by dead people who voted in alphabetical order. And we can't forget JFK and how the mob gave him Illinois.

Sorry Nina, ballot access laws, prohibitions on attending debates, matching funds, not to forget the bias of the media; these are all ways the Demopulicans keep the 3rd parties out.

Then who/what is your government?

I can't remember if you stated such but it sounds as if you are from ths United States. And, yes, we are locked into a "stacked deck" of sorts.........but that is only because the people who have taken a stance one way or the other make their choices and vote for them. By not making a choice and doing what you can to make changes it's never going to change. Opting out is giving up........and I cannot accept that as legitamate.

Why do I need a government? I do no harm to others. I am a grown adult, I don't need a government to take care of me. I can decide what is best for my self.

But the only way it is going to change is when we as Americans recapture the "Spirit of 76" when the true "Greatest Generation" rebelled against the existing government.

/me seconds that - in a polite British way

(with the added explanation that for the French, siding with someone actually means tiptoeing away as quickly and quietly as soon as their back is turned.... :P)
