You can take any of the top 3 canididates from either of the two main parties and the policies will stay the same. More war, higher taxes, more government control of our lives. Now, we're pointing the finger at the middle east... Imo, we are all the same, the actual people living in all these various countries. That's what I like about SL, its a melting pot that seems to actually work. Well, it was working until the government(s) had to point out the differences again (VAT, online gambling, blah blah...) and we all get in a tizzy at each other... If you think about it, as soon as you hit that connect button, you are a resident of SL, a Second Lifer. Third parties fare very badly in first past the post election systems like we have in the US. Most countries that have vigorous third parties have, to some degree, a proportional representation system, rather than first past the post. With the winner take all system we have, it's very hard for any third party/independent to get more than a toehold. Of course, it happens -- Vermont had a socialist senator for a number of years, there have been prominent "independents" as governors and, to a much lesser degree, as senators ... but trying to get the kind of traction needed to become a truly viable third party is extremely hard in a first past the post system.

Yes we all eat sleep and poop like everyone else, but what we believe between our ears is markedly different both within cultures and, to a much greater degree, as between cultures. Worldviews matter: they shape everything from how we view others, to moral rules, to life goals, to child rearing and everything in between. Sure, there are commonalities, but the differences in outlook and perspective between the various major cultural regions of the world are marked, pronounced and persistent -- it's simply not the case that "we are all the same", in my view. |

Not voting is a legitimate choice. Why give your consent to one of two evils? By not voting you can be saying "I remove my consent from the government." Remember the lesser of two evils is still evil. then those who don't vote truley negate thier rights to complain about said govenrment. i hear this "reasoning" so many times and it really ticks me off. yes you do have the choice to stick your head in the sand, but rememeber by NOT voting you( and i dont mean You personally) are giving consent for the current regime to continue, and slapping those in the face who worked hard and tirelessly and risked thier own lives, so women, and minorities CAN vote. _____________________

Oh come on Keera nationality bashing is as old as, well nationalities. Sometimes it goes overboard, we get into rounds of "My country is better than your country". This is a chicken and egg situation. Sometimes it's just a bit of banter. We all know when we reflect on it, that it was silly to get involved. There's an unwritten rule that it's ok for someone from their own country to bash it, but people go on the defensive if someone from another country makes those criticisms. Worst of all is how at times it's managed to side the English with the French. Nelson and Napolean will be turning in their graves. Of course all that will change in a few hours when the rugby starts! What I hate hearing is "my country sucks." From anybody, about their own country. Now THAT gets OLD. coco _____________________

I think the rest of the world is just envious of our progressive American electoral system, that's all. Why in our country, anyone can be elected president, even children, horse thieves and war criminals! How boring it must be [with an occasional exception for Italy and Australia, and the perennial exception of ... umm, no better not say; people from the totally fubar'ed countries can get really loud and nasty] to have restrained, responsible and thoughtful leadership.
