Major liability issues with partnerships. My suggestion is to form a corporation or an LLC. The LLC is taxed just like a partnership with the benefits of personal liability protection. Make sure you document it carefully, though. As for corporations, the traditional wisdom that an S-corp is the preferred form for a small corporation is slowly giving way to a new school of thought that holds that you can achieve the same tax liability with a carefully formed C-corp, but that you have some added benefits of being able to retain capital pre-tax and considerably more flexibility for future growth, including the ability to issue multiple classes of stock, no ceiling on the number of shareholders, and the ability to bring in off-shore venture capital by utilizing non-resident alien shareholders.

Really, partnerships are a poor way to do business. I would avoid them in almost all situations.

There are more considerations than just liabilities and tax issues. I agree, though, that Partnerships and sole proprietorships are really outdated in today's world.

I was just goofing off, but, of course, you're absolutely correct. There are a number of issues to consider.

Huh?
I think most people are talking about the SL partnership like a romantic partnership...

What are the benefits to partnering in SL? Do you have to change your name? Do you jointly own property? Or is it just a note on your profile?

Why does anyone go study?

Why does anyone agree to an "exclusive relationship"?

Why does anyone marry?

Same reasons...

Love

Commitment

Dedication

a promise to be there for you..

This is kind of a subtext to the original question but ladies, if you REALLY want guys to stop hitting on you, wear glasses!

Glasses are hot!

I agree with Carl. Glasses are hot. Add a secretary's outfit, and you've got my full attention.

Well, as long as we're necroposting:

How you dress seems to have little to do with it.

I actually conducted an experiment about this. Took two identical AVs to a club and camped them next to each other. Same shape, skin, hair and shoes. Both in slacks and halter top, one outfit bright and flowery with frills, the other in tailored earth tones. In 3 hours, the bright and flowery one got 3 come-ons, the earth-tone none.

And yes, in my experience, glasses are hot. Or that could be the low-rider snakeskin pants that I usually wear them with ...

Ummm...the only "bonus" to being partnered is the "bonus" LL gets when you pay them the partnership fee...and then, later, after you realize what a deranged, sick, twisted monkey you've glued onto your own back...ANOTHER fee...so you can be "virtually divorced".

I'm sure one of the next updrages will allow you to issue virtual restraining orders.

HIGH five!!!

Since the corpse is not just stirring in the grave, but dancing and having a laugh:

Partnership can be used as part of a routine to fend off propositions
1. No thank you. I'm not in SL for sex.
2. Well perhaps, but not with you.
3. What part of 'No' do you not understand?
4.* I have a partner * (She's my alt, but I'm not telling you that)
5. No, she wouldn't have sex with you either
6. Feck off or I'll AR you
7. I'm a guy in RL (This nuclear option should work well on both male and female propositioners)

:)

I know a hetro someone who created a same-sex alt and partnered with it. This was all to demonstrate to the RL partner that approaches by 'competition' in SL were being dissuaded.

All that being said, Partnership in SL can be a beautiful public affirmation of a relationship - just as in RL.

Interesting. I would never think of using alt partnering for protection purposes, but it's an interesting concept.

Just be careful you don't like Poopmaster, breakup and end with only half your inventory!!

Good ploy though tbh

The primary benefit of partnership is to provide an un-ending supply of drama ;)

LMAO I agree. But yeah, to answer the post....there's no in-world 'benefit' to partnering. If the box is checked it means you have an SL sweety.

Funny...I don't do romance in SL....and I don't have a 'problem' with guys hitting on me...I've actually made more great freinds this way. The ones that hit on me....move on and find partners and remain my friend....and wind up reporting all the 'drama' to me. LOL It's great.

There is some sub group that seems to think you shouldn't read profiles without asking permission, and info in profiles is not for public consumption. Something to do with RPG ettiquette, or something. I wish everyone would read my profile before approaching me, as i read the profile of everyone who approaches me. i guess i shouldn't complain of people being polite, but I believe the profiles are there to be read.

Guilty of the not reading of profiles with out permission. Just took it as courtesy to ask first. Didn't know about the RPG etiquette because this is the first major so called "game" I've ever played (other discussion fork there huh?)

Hadn't made the Gor connection either and don't really get that aspect... thinking... nope, don't get it - you wouldn't really need one on Gor what with caste colors and such.

I don't bother with profiles until I decide that the person is interesting enough to keep talking to, or maybe to find out how old they are, to see if I might offend them by offering to help.

I always read people's profiles. Even people I have no intention on talking to. I even read the profiles of people I dont like to see what kind of drama they are up to now. Me and Vi do Profile gossiping.

I like to read the profile's of BDSM and Goreans especially since their Masters and Slaves change so often its worse than General Hospital. It always makes me think how is it these people break up so much when one person "owns" the other?

They also have the most nude Pictures. My friend got suspended for a couple days for a Profile picture where her nip peaked through the fabric, Yet if its a slave girl she can have Pixel Sex in her Picks and no one reports her.

Heh I'm the complete opposite. I never start a conversation with someone I dont know before studying their profile a bit and finding it interesting or creative in some way.
