What are the benefits to partnering in SL? Do you have to change your name? Do you jointly own property? Or is it just a note on your profile?

Simply put, it is just that. A 'note' on your profile.
The benefits though can be many, it's up to the partners. 1) Companionship 2)No more having to cyber with your alts ![]() 3) Landownership is completely independant and up to the partnered owners to decide. No name change required or possible. 4) Community status, network of friends etc. 5) Someone to stroke your ego ...or tear you down , when needed ![]() I'm sure the list goes on... _____________________

"Drop dead loser" - being a bit more confrontational than "sorry im partnered" *gives you someone to cheat on. *adds to risk by you falling into the community property trap. *guarantees you or your partner will soon have to pay $25L more when its time for divorce. *You have to get partnered at least once to become a SL divorc'e *Lets you play Liz Taylor and get married again and again. I know someone who gets married monthly. |

I know someone who didn't like being hit on and also no desire in 'dating' in SL. She created an Alt specifically to partner with... worked wonderfully for her

The primary benefit of partnership is to provide an un-ending supply of drama

I am partnered in my profile. My profile also CLEARLY states that I am happily married in RL and SL to the same peson. It does nothing to stop men from hitting on me constantly. It makes me very uncomfortable. Even when I say I don't give out personal info, and that I'm married, they don't stop. I usually end up booting them off my land, or doing a quick TP home if I am somwhere else. It really does ruin SL alot for me. And my character is not slutty looking or wearing revealing clothing. I don't get it. I don't like it.

One benefit I find is that *some* guys stop hitting on you. Sometimes this is true lol. Some just don't care or don't read though. _____________________

A lot of people dont read profiles. Which seems stupid to me, how can somone want to cyber someone they havent even bothered to read the profile. There is some sub group that seems to think you shouldn't read profiles without asking permission, and info in profiles is not for public consumption. Something to do with RPG ettiquette, or something. I wish everyone would read my profile before approaching me, as i read the profile of everyone who approaches me. i guess i shouldn't complain of people being polite, but I believe the profiles are there to be read. _____________________

Something to do with RPG ettiquette, or something. Are you kidding me? If you don't want anyone reading your profile, don't put anything in it! All it takes is a search and anyone of almost 5 million registered residents can read that info in the comfort of thier own sim without you even knowing! The idea seems absolutely rediculous to me, haha! Personally I am an avid profile reader, I read the profile of almost everyone I ever meet, and often before I even meet them! And ya, like I said it stops SOME guys from hitting on you. How you dress seems to have little to do with it. I will get hit on more when I am working in my store in a nice suit or dress than I do when I'm dressed 'down' when I'm out for some fun. Maybe they are just after my money ![]() _____________________

Profile question: If I am reading someone's profile, does it cause the same clouds that building does? Do they know that I'm reading it?
Sometimes I read the profile and go yuck...definitely don't want to interact with this person so I'm concerned the fact that I read their profile indicates that I'm interested if they can tell. |

As far as I know, no one knows when you are reading their profile.

Theres some Goreans like this - "Profiles dont exist on Gor" Nor broadband, or computers, or little floating green/red words over everyone's heads, nor magic collars (just beaten iron ones or whatever), but they seem to manage with those ![]() I read profiles all the time- check every page, check all the groups and stuff. Picks especially are often good- you can find some interesting new places that way. I used to join random groups just for flavour, hopefully others do too, it makes things more interesting ![]() _____________________

I'm a builder. I spend a lot of time in a skybox all alone. Benefit to partnering: Understanding, easy to get along with, and patient person who gives me honest critiques of what I've built. It's a trust thing. There is no change in how we interact. He'd already had mod permissions on my stuff, so no biggie to throw a name in a blank.
As an added bonus, it got rid of a guy who was pestering me to partner with him so he could use my builds without having to pay for them. (The fact that he ran around naked all the time wasn't a plus either.) A Edit to add: Actually it was the other way around. Partnered to get rid of the naked guy and ended up with a cool person to hang with. ![]() _____________________

I love the idea that it would stop men hitting on you.
Do you reckon it would work in rl too? |
