Actually, only Bloodlines players need the potion to restore their soul or whatever....anyone who isn't interested in playing can contact the owners and they'll remove them from their database, no potion (or L$) necessary. It also sounds like the free garlic necklace does the same thing.

Still not a fan of their spampire empire though...

I have after some time been told by one of the owners about the opting out but why should i have to opt out of something i was never in ?
Why am i on their data base dont remembering being asked if i was willing to be. Its a simple fact this system is about making money for the makers and good luck to them but i am amazed how many will stick up for something that they could RP most of it at no cost and RPing when well done is more fun and challenging than spamming.
The makers need to be shown we are sick of their crap and though they will say its not them its the ones who buy it, well true but if it was made to only work in sims that allow it then the problem would not be as it is now.

All rpgs have a rule system. Otherwise i could fly my giant bat made out of piano keys into a cyberpunk setting. See where im coming from ?
You're coming from a steampunk setting, I think.

Actually, I wish they'd implement the idea of making "avatar" a buildable object type, so that these sims could just have scripted NPCs for people to bite.
They could bug all those traffic bots. It'd be a marriage made in heck.

If they really wanted to role-play vampires, then every time a vampire bit someone and any other avatar was in a certain range (say, chat range, 20m) then the vampire should be at risk of discovery (dress it up as "betraying your bloodline" or something) unless they ALSO bit the other avatar, or the other avatar visited some web page to say that they didn't see it, were in collusion with the vampire, or in some other way were a willing participant in the role-play.

Ignoring this rule should lose you more points/blood/whatever than the bite gets you.

That would totally put the kibosh on the whole "stalking shops" thing, no?

I have said this to them as i tend to hang out in a beach sim and leave before night fall. The responce i get is "You not heard of a day walker" or" You dont believe all you read about Vampires do you? we are not killed the way you think" so it seems all the stories and movies i grew up with were wrong

Having read the site, this game is set up as a classic pyramid scam.

In practice: it actually plays out like the classic vampire/zombie plague story. What is missing from this story are your Van Hellsings, Father Duncans, Buffys, and child AV "Monster Squads".

I for one opt for the warn/ban/eject/AR method, though I think anything that signals to the players "No, sorry, take it elsewhere batboy" should be heartily encouraged. Just don't take it as far as become "Griefing the griefers."

I like the idea of BuffyBot I heard about, which if targetted for a bite, does the Warn/Ban/Eject part without you even being there.

However, i can say one positive thing about Bloodlines: It is the most successful bit of viral marketting I've ever seen. Why? Because whether you love it or hate it, you remember it.

I wonder if anyone has ever thought of using something like this to perform epidemiology experiments in SL...

stupid question about vampire bites
10-23-2008 16:17
so what happens to the person stupid enough to get bitten? is there code attached? does it affect anything else in sl? i've turned down plenty of 'requests' to be bitten and still don't know what supposedly happens to the 'victim'.

You get an animation of getting bitten played on you.

If you agree to the animation, it plays that. If you say yes in chat when prompted, you receive a clear prim with a bite mark texture that you can wear. There are scripts in the bite prim that will change the texture when touched, and there's a check for updates, I don't think that attachment does anything else. The whole soul collection thing happens off world on the spampire game's web server, so it doesn't have any real effect on your avatar (the players carry out all the annoyance manually).

It's been a while, but I think you get a landmark and maybe a notecard along with the bite prim.

showing my age am I?

I remember it as late as the 90's, but really when you were growing up (regardless of era) there was always some sort of free form role playing... be it house, cowboys n indians, or house.... no system, just a basic premise, it had to be believable.

vampire bites
10-25-2008 01:31
i chose to get bitten ages ago, just to try and get the vamps off my back. All i got on accepting a bite request was local chat message saying xxxxx had taken 0.25 litres of my blood and 5% of my humanity....boo hoo.... I didn't get any animation played out on me and have had no further sl problem from this. I was given a set of teeth and some message about that i could now go about niting people if IU wanted to. Getting bitten once does and has not stopped the requests from vampires to bite you.

I recently IM'd the web guru guy in charge of all the vampire stuff and asked him to remove my name from any 'bitten' data base and tell his rp'ers to back off.

I doubt this will happen, so I use cheri's killer hud and hunt them down........keeping tabs on the kills and names of vamps and send a note to the clan....... dog the vampire hunter.

Yeh it really doesn't make much diff at all. You get to see them pretend to bite your neck. Then you get a 'bite' you can wear, as others have said. What I wanted to add was that you can just delete that and it's like it never happened. You can get bitten 100 times a day in SL if you want to, unless you choose to RP as a vampire it won't matter. Just either say no and walk away or mute them, or say yes and delete the bite thingy from your inventory instead of wearing it.

I think even if you did wear it you'd still have to join the group and RP and all that. In other words...it's all pretend. LOL

vamps
10-25-2008 07:03
that's true clarissa.......as an aside today i received an IM from the web guru man of bloodlines and he sent me a garlic necklace which he said will remove me from their database and keep me from being approached to be bitten again......durrrrr.......a forum member kindly gave me one of those already, but I don't believe I will automatically be removed from their database through wearing it. I would be interested to know if anyone has still been approached for a bite wearing this necklace thing?....This whole vamp thing doesn't really bother me that much, its just some stupid in-house rp game which you can either actively participate in or ignore as clarissa said.

What is a good idea is the 'killing' of vamps with the silver knife HUD and sending their details to bloodlines. I know many will say this is active particiaption in their game, but then it could be fun dressing up as a group of vampire hunters one night and doing a bit of rp of our own. I am sure someone smart can come up a script that could promote this, with tattoos of honour or something?

Their database is available on the web. I gave that necklace to someone who was previously bitten (and was listed in that database) and once they have used it, they aren't in it anymore. No idea if a no-bite list works as such, though.

That didn't stop them from being bitten by someone from a different but similar game...

Dog, the name I gave you will work. For those who don't feel like slogging through the billions of posts here looking for that name, it is listed in my profile picks. Look for "Johnny Van Helsing" in those picks.

Sure, you can get the garlic from me as well, since the creators have so thoughtfully made it difficult to find. Heck, I've been IMd a number of times by people saying, "I'm where the garlic is supposed to be and can't find it".

After I got removed from the database, I've stood around vampires who were biting everyone else and leaving me alone.

FEAR JOHNNY VAN HELSING!!

What happens to a victim?
10-25-2008 11:51
From: Rika Watanabe
Mmm... You see, that's the trick, you can only be sucked out dry once. :) Otherwise there would be no problems - every vampire would shack up with a victim and drain them daily.

Since everyone can be a vampire victim for only 5 liters of 'vital blood', ever...

I'm pretty new, and have been propositioned for bites many times. I accidentally allowed it once because I was clicking off a bunch of the "you paid $L0 for.." messages at freebie dungeon and a vampire bite proposition was in the middle of them as I was clicking... Then the chat said I lost health or something. What happens to you if you get bitten too many times? does your avatar die?

Nope - not from Bloodlines. If you've been bitten and you're not playing the game, you can just ignore the whole thing. It just means you're on a list on an outside server that shouldn't have any effect whatsoever on your SL life.

Some things can harm or kill you in damage-enabled areas (very rare, denoted by a red heart in the bar at the top of your screen) - and if the worst happens and you die, you are teleported home. That's it. No worse than most security systems. But as far as I know, Bloodlines can't even kill you in that sense.

Garlic Necklace

Liquid Designs (Bloodlines) has a Garlic Necklace available for free that not only prevents bites but removes you from the game as well.

Send a notecard to Mars Bracken and DEMAND that you are completely removed for their database.

Note - the first vampire that bites you owns your soul and this is recorded in the Liquid Designs (Bloodlines) game database without permission by the victim. Not only is this illegal, but it completely sucks!

1.) ...And they refuse to do so. Maybe a court order will force them to act. Hell any records can be deleted for a web database. (perhaps persuant to privacy laws and opting out) Getting legal advice on this one.

2.) I am ready when you are.......anyone else?
