I was considering trying the rp game Bloodlines out but have read some nasty threads here and slx forums about stupid people asking for random bite requests.
And I've also experienced a couple of women standing in my store the other day, spamming our patrons with bite requests.

So, as a vampire in SL... would it maybe be a bad idea to rp with the Bloodlines system and just find something else (DCS or CCS compat)?

I've searched around SL before but could never find a good area for vamp rpg even though I heard about some good ones, when I go check them out I feel like a lost puppy dog lol. It's like you have to know someone who is already rping in the sim before your accepted.

Just looking for something to do when I'm having a builders slump.

::tilts head in puzzelment::

am I the only one that remembers when roleplaying was bout the story and not some 'rule sytem'?

unfortunately you'll find many invite only places (and that's why they are reccomended, because they can filter the types you mentioned). most of the rest of the places have lots of the element you are trying to avoid, but there are also some good regulars in those places too... you just have to keep an eye out for them, even some freeform players

I'm new to SL but I've already been propositioned several times to let someone bite me.

*NEWS FLASH* If I want to role play a vampire's victim, I'll seek out such groups and then RP it. Until then, leave me alone freaks.

Good lord, I was trying to withdraw money at SLX the other day and I was spammed to death by a family of vampires who wouldn't take no for an answer.

So I would say find something else. That game is annoying.

From reading the Bloodlines manual, it's a pyramid scheme game. Meaning that even though no money exchange takes place, except that they all buy the same scripted objects and accessories and make the game authors rich, to keep your place in the scoreboard you have to constantly seek new victims -- or put other people to constantly seek new victims and give the proceeds to you. Every full vampire needs a new victim at least every 20 days just to stay there.

And evidently, it has reached a point where most of those that were willing to join, already did. :)

P.S. Hmmm... I wonder, how much are they willing to pay for a steady stream of alts? :)

Heh! One of the older Vampire sims I visit regularly will automatically BAN anyone using it. It was always more of a "social place" rather than "RP" place.

[22:59] *****: any takers?

hey, the new camping for newbies, "hello and welcome to blood sucking island, we only have the best looking vampires in SL to suck you dry. L$10 a bite, the more vamps that bite the more money you earn." They could have a conveyor belt system and just make their way down the line.

Bloodlines is ok if you stick to friends to bite or go to their RP area. Standing around spamming people for a bite is just annoying to people who have no interest in it.

Mmm... You see, that's the trick, you can only be sucked out dry once. :) Otherwise there would be no problems - every vampire would shack up with a victim and drain them daily.

Since everyone can be a vampire victim for only 5 liters of 'vital blood', ever, and every vampire loses 0.25 liters every 24 hours - leaky, you know - every vampire needs one new victim every 20 days, and wants a new victim for extra security and status in the scoreboard far more often.

Of these victims, some invariably get interested and choose to become vampires as well, which results in the number of vampires growing and their victim demands growing even faster.

Lovely piece of marketing. :)

Yeah it does seem that part is quite a flaw to the game.
I wonder if a lot of the bloodlines rpers just have a ton of alts for their donors.

It's a good game concept though. Where as a lot of the other vampire rp sims are more social based, the bloodlines game actually tries to recreate (in a sense) the vampire biting and etc... but then you have idiots who spam bite requests and make other bloodlines rper's look bad.
Vampire griefing lol.

No, I'm just trying to find a rp theme that offers not only the social aspect but also the "game".
If I choose to play Bloodlines, I wouldn't spam bite requests cause it's just rediculous and cause for me to get AR'd.

Is there anyone here that partakes in roleplaying? Have any ideas. (Non-gorean related lol)

Not personally but someone recently gave me a tour of Murotima and it looked pretty damn funky to me. It's elves, humans, drow type rp.

Just curious... has anyone made a scripted garlic necklace that has a user written boomerang warning when someone sends a bite invite?

If not, I hope to inspire someone to make one, look me up when you do!

Sounds like a good idea, but one would need a volunteer to reverse-engineer the protocol it uses to scan for victims to make such a necklace. :)

That sums it up.

Stick to bloodsucking the people who are into being bloodsucked.

Even asking some random person who is no where near a vampire sim is really out of line.

I am so glad to see im not the only one fed up with vamps. I do not go to vamp style sims since i do not wish to be anyone's dinner. It seems the vamps have no respect even if you have a titler saying dont bite me. RP is fine but limit it to sims set up for it so that people who want that style of RL can go to it same as the goreans tend to stick to their sims ( there was a time they were all over trying to seduce people into becoming gorean) Im not new to SL Im not stupid if i want to be a vamp ill become one . It does not take someone biting me all it takes is me buying a set of teeth and dressing goth and saying HEY Im a vamp.
To be told "you just have to decline" well heres news you can just ask first.
I like the garlic idea but in my profile i have " I eat garlic, bath in holy water, wear a cross and hang out in daylight hours. They say none of that stops them, guess SL breeds super Vamps

I'm sure there must be a "stake a vampire through the heart" animation out there :).

Have someone make an attachment that will walk up to the vampire and stake them. You wouldn't need their animation permissions even just to do your own animation.

It should thin their ranks considerably :p.

Don't bother with any of the systems out there. do your homework, study the legends and stay away from anything that tries to tell you how to play.

I've Role Played on AOL for almost nine years ... The moment someone decided to bring in White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade ... there was an influx of sub par Role Players that relied too heavily on their chosen system and 'race' of Vampire.

If you ARE looking for a Vampire archetype to use, please IM me and I'll link you to my old AOL RP race defs page.

Personally I'd just love to pull out a wooden stake, call in a few of my Buffy the Vampire Slayer type Neko's and then get into some serious vampire RP.

Or just announce to them the time, the fact they are standing outdoors in nonskin covering attire and that Windlight has fried their vampire arse to dust.

/me looks at the screaming madly flailing flaming figure of flesh & clothing in the bright sunlight and asks "Please say that again slowly?"

or at night maybe

/me points at you, you look down your body and see a crucifix shaped laser image painted in the centre of your chest, you look up and you hear the groaning of havok 4 driven gears, you find yourself entranced at the sight of an array of glowing depleted uranium silver alloy crucifixes covering a 12m sphere, which you then realise is inside a 60m deep pigiron tube that is aligned at you, dimly you are aware this is hanging under a 50m blimp that is now blocking your last ever sighting of the moon.................

If you do get bitten
10-20-2008 17:38
I am an avid Bloodlines RPer. Social life has been on the up and up since I joined.

1. There is a potion to reverse it.
2. You do not need to accept the offer to be bitten.
3. There are other more serious pests like beggars and freeloaders and con-artists.
4. Don't knock things that you know nothing about.
5. Go play World of Warcraft.

Fun. I haven't seen a single beggar or freeloader in my entire SL lifetime, but got numerous bite requests. :)

1. There is a potion to reverse it. *A harrasment AR is the best potion. You don't have to buy it.
2. You do not need to accept the offer to be bitten. *You do not need to bother everyone in the world with your requests.
3. There are other more serious pests like beggars and freeloaders and con-artists.*But none as rude or self absorbed.
4. Don't knock things that you know nothing about. *Don't pull people unwillingly into things they are not interested in.
5. Go play World of Warcraft. *Go suck a garlic bulb

Yes :) like the pillowfighting but with a stake instead of a pillow lol that would be great. Ya know about a year ago i watched these 2 normal looking aves change into these very tall very huge vampire aves, it was just awesome to see, they were very sl scary looking all grey and bloody lol, that would be great to change into a towering creature like that and play with the bloodlines spammes like a cat with a mouse lol. I used the advise of someone on the other thread and said sure pay me 100,000 lindens and ill go grab me alt and you can bite away lol they didnt like that idea lol

Having a HUD count how much blood you have taken/have left and animating your bite is not roleplay even by a stretch.

So you admit most Bloodlines players are pests at least. That is progress.
Now that we have established what most Bloodlines players are, it is up to the people being pestered to determine the seriousness of the pestering.

I would say don't presume to know what people know about, people you don't even know.

Ahh so WoW is where you learnt your pestering skills, that explains a lot. Are you going to force us to play that too? Just askin'
