It is becoming a world unto itself and a place that is inclined to shun.

It doesn't shun. Every new poster gets a nice star, and a friendly greeting.

From: someone
A person I know even said in-world that they were trying to find their "place" in teh ignore thread.

This I understand. If the current flavour of conversation doesn't interest me, I find I can't jump in and contribute. But that isn't anybody's fault but my own. Waiting an hour and checking back usually takes care of that. Occasionally I'll post something pointless and worthless, and people have the audacity to not quote me in a reply with something validating my presence! Can you believe that?

From: someone

There's nothing wrong wit it as such BUT its purpose is a chat line and it doesnt seem at all welcoming or user-friendly (to people liek me and others).

It's about as friendly and inclusive as as a group of people ranging from casual acquantences to very close friends can get.

From: someone

BUT it can formulate gossip and too intense a situation can occur. Its the "Coronation Street" of sl and I just not sure its a good idea for it IN forum.

That is just about as wrong as you can get. When people bring the outside drama into the thread (between posters), they get wrist slapped right quick.

From: someone

Why not transfer teh time spent in teh Ignore thread at the clubhouse?

I cannot be in in-world as frequently as I can check a forum.

Nor is the in-world chat system close enough to a web forum in functionality and scope to be a suitable replacement.

From: someone

Then everyone can feel a sense of sharing and group, raher than teh limited coffee-morning/coffee machine group (neither of which many of us dont "do";).

Coffee is paramount!

So let me see if I get this straight. A bunch of regular posters form a common bond here, some people see it as negative, a clique, "taking over" whatever. Fair enough. So they pretty much take that into a solitary thread, with some exceptions, but for the most part keep their unacceptable behavior there. Now that isn't good enough? What the fuck do people want? It's a Goddamn forum for Chrissakes. Lighten up.

This seems to sum it up nicely.

Obvious aignore thread is imporatnt to many. But by its limitd readers and contributors its a klick. There's no need to defend it I guess but its not everybody's taste. We all get what we need form sl otherwise we wouldnt come back all teh time. If teh ignore thread is what you want then fine. As I said VERY CAREFULLY I dont want to annoy or offend people when discussing it BUT its not sacrosanct territory and I think a thread (just had a grab bag look at it) that is employed to discuss very many non-sl things is really breaking all terms of what many posters IN the ignore thread clamour about when they read peopel who post in the Resident Answers - they'll type "Off Topic" and "This thread should be closed down - its off topic" or "This reapeats old threads" etc etc.

I suppose people at work places around teh world can escape into the forum and dive on to teh ignore thread for a break. It's not my business to say dont do that. I work for myself and am totally self-employed/free lance but I hire people and pay them to work - is teh ignore thread a way to ignore work or boredom in situations?

Just read this and truly realize that its a chance people actually think of me what they think of me in teh forum when I type. Ah well. Get back to work! I have gone home for teh Fri. afternoon coz I am working from 5 am to 10 pm on sat'day. - I REALLY am.

I dont attack coffee. In my working situation I allow full-time coffee for anyone in my "orbit". I also allow ALL mothers to bring their under school age children to where I am working at that moment. I have paid full benfits to same-sex partnerships for as longas I remember. Funny enough, in my real work, people actually think I am great to work for.

Our forum expectation are why we come to the forum also. This is "my" hour or so of "my" day. Its convenient. I can chat a few minutes and open myself up more than even to my friends who expect a "working Jig" 24/7. Which of us can truly be ourselves in real? Our public personas and different from our sl ones to soem degree.

Interesting. When I see a nice hot cup of coffee in front of me, I attack it. A lot.

Sadly even at my age, my doc has insisted that I must restrict my coffee to 4 cups a day. I am San Pellagrino drinker now. No chocolate also. Ever.

Yeah, but if he is collecting, he should share some of himself with us.

Funny pic.
In my real life my doc is one of those healthy types. Kinda strikes a breath of cold air when he comes into the examining room. Yes, a HE. I like him anyway. But he is one of those "Jig, I just read this in teh Michelin Guide to Good Health" types and handles me as if I have had a lifestyle like a Uranium cooling pond. So its clean living for me. I cant even have a bacon butty. Or a Chip-sarny. And I am banned from anything with "recreational" as a desciptor except a piece fo sports equipment.

PMs would be on by default.

There would be a stream of consciousness forum with just one page so that people can banter but the results need not be saved. Once a thread slipped off the lone page it would be gone for good. It would be the place to go to to see if other people can't log in.

The software would work, whatever it would be.

General.

That's called a shoutbox. Though the one I made on a BBS I wrote back around 1983 I called the graffiti wall.

I don't get here all that much, so I'm not sure what I'd change. I can usually find the answers I'm looking for by using search, so probably nothing, except add more moderators.

I mean just a forum with many threads, though - with just one forum page listing the threads - not just a chatbox. Forum posters might start strategising to gain territory, which might be amusing.
