'entitlement' is demanding that you turn off autoreturn so that i may squat, or becoming upset when auto return is on. 'entitlement' is not rezzing prims on build-enabled land.
'respect' would be honouring the land owners wishes, which you assume to be that of your own even when they not only have build on and autoreturn off, but they dont even visit the parcel.
i have parcels that i have visited in months. im not sure what state of mind i would have to be in if i ventured there, found a squatter, and felt disrespected

No respect is asking before you use the land for your purposes.

Assuming that it's okay is a sense of self-entitlement to use anything that isn't locked down as yours.

It's like walking over to the neighbors and grabbing the lawnmower sitting outside on their porch to cut your grass while they are not home.

Just because it's digital doesn't change basic good manners to ask permission first.

Taking advantage of them maybe having left build on with no auto return is the same thing as borrowing without permission.

i don't see how you can feel disrespected over something you obviously don't care about because ...

A) you haven't been there in months
B) you didn't bother to check 2 boxes to protect yourself from such activity

should you be surprised if your property is stolen because you forgot to lock the doors and left for a significant amount of time? no

so ppl ask before walking over my land then? if not, is it disrespectful behaviour indicative of a sense of entitlement?
banlines are there for a reason mate. if youre so offended at the notion of people rezzing a prim on your land or whatnot there are tools there to help you. auto return on, build off, object entry off, banlines up. then nobody can disrespect you, right?

You don't know why they had the land set up, many have sandbox lots for them and friends to use.

Also many new land owners don't know how to set the options.

Hell you have no idea how long they have been away unless you ask.

you respect property as much in real life or is it because it's digital that it don't matter to you, never mind the fact the land owner pays real money for the use of those prims and land.

(and lets not forget empty lots on the same sim do add to prim limits on all of the owned lots by that person.)

As for the light, that is a straw man. Since you do not lose anything, but are gaining the illumination to light up your property.

A closer example is them using your yard to build a fort on and leaving it when done, while you are gone.

again, this isnt about entitlement. entitlement implies a right, and i have never suggested that people have a 'right' to squat. i have stated though that it is possible to do under certain circumstances, and i have gone on to say that it is quite incidental for the landowner to stop if they dont like it. 'entitlement' and 'respect' are red herrings. their use is being employed for the sole purpose of clouding the discussion.
