Anything for you, sweetie! You have to keep your strength up for keeping tabs on Yosef.

In all fairness- In case Yosef does have an SL gf- we're just playing here. I met him in world and he was very nice.

Still do wish he would cook for me though :).

Something you have chosen to do, be, or appear can be re-chosen/reversed/un-chosen. Therefore, if you don't like the CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR OWN DECISIONS, you have the power to fix it. If I CHOOSE to wear a big foam cowboy hat (of the type that might be seen at a football game) to the office, I will get disapproving looks in the elevator and conference room. That's not discrimination, and it would be absurd to suggest so. If I don't like the CONSEQUENCES OF MY CHOICE I can CHOOSE to take off the hat. Most likely, I chose to wear the hat intentionally for the attention it draws.

Being put at a completely arbitrary, un-natural, man-made, unfounded disadvantage because of something over which you have NO control is unjustice. ..... </snip>

I wanted to make a clear delineation between Real Discrimination in RL and stuff we open ourselves to in SL because although I have thankfully never been the target of RL discrimination I want to make sure no one is offended by the comparison.

Now, having said that, a few months ago I was on tirade about furry discrimination... some at the time made similar statements- regarding choice versus your birth right. However, the reason I find Sling’s point valid is that while the condition of my birth – Hispanic female- may cause discrimination in certain circles, the choices I make are born of, yes my own background, but also of the formative nature of my life experiences. I realize in SL we have the choice to be things that do not even enter the realm of possibility in RL- but even our choices are determined by our life experiences and the desire to explore within ourselves.

Why would being a certain color – not human color, steering way afar of racial discrimination for reason stated above- influence how I am perceived? I think it may perhaps say more to the one doing the perceiving how they feel about it if they are willing to explore that within themselves – than why I choose to be rainbow colored.

I didn’t choose for shock factor- I chose green because it matched the fairy; blue for the mermaid… I went with the grey skin for a black and white movie character but that actually caused consternation in my dance friend as well.

The clockwork girl I admit was for weirdness sake.. I am now exploring “weird for the sake of weird” too.

None of the above actually applies to me, but people still interact with me when I'm wearing either my Marvin the Martian or Demon avs, and the only time I'm compliant about dress code is when I visit a friend who is a RP Gor, out of respect for him rather than the Gor society.
Right there with you. My best and dearest friend is a slave. I tried gor to be near her but it did not work out wellat all. Now I visit when I can and I even wear silks while there and listen to her "Jarl" prattle on about how she is so lucky to be allowed to kneel in front of him ... blah, blah, *retch*. But I do it because I love my friend dearly.

Just thinking abut how RL attitudes reflect even in such non-standard SL modes.
I have a full copy of ruth in my inventory. Right down to the clothes and shoes. It's amazing how much more clearly a man thinks with the head above his shoulders when when I wear what I call my plain brown wrapper. I have not thought about skin color, but I wanted that av to be as bland as possible.

OK, so I only wear it when I'm in a pissy mood but it seems to get my point across.

Hahah... What we won't do for our friends.
I hope she returns the favour once and a while, and ventures out to free lands, to visit you.

1) Do you wear any not-human color skin, i.e. green, blue red, etc?

2) Have you ever felt anyone has treated you differently because of wearing skin of such colors?

3) If someone you know won't associate with you when you are "colorful", do you change to accommodate their preferences?

1. I wear a paper white skin when I am my Vamp girl in RP.

2. Its funny, I get more attention (either wanted or unwanted) when I am wearing my vamp skin than when I am just normal.

3. I will change it more based on location than if a person likes it or not. Most people frown on a half dressed female vampire showing up at a wedding or for a night out at Frank's.

Hmmmmmmm.

It could be that to be discriminated against because of our choices should feel worse than being discriminated against because of something we have no control over.

I would think it would be the other way around.

Many years ago I was your typical biker. Long hair, dirty jeans, black tee shirt and leathers. When we would ride to Mexico we always got searched on the way back. I knew I would be singled out because of the way I chose to look. I looked like a druged up biker -- but then I was a druged up biker.

I made my choices know full well there would be consiquences and people would treat me different because of those choices.

I can't change the skin I was born in. Yet people will treat me different because of it. Try that for a lifetime and you can make some rash reactions to it. Like becoming a druged up biker for one ...

Since Super Thread here seems a nice little play ground for us and this isn't a question on how to anything in SL - how do you guys feel about it?

Here is my poll questions:

1) Do you wear any not-human color skin, i.e. green, blue red, etc?

2) Have you ever felt anyone has treated you differently because of wearing skin of such colors?

3) If someone you know won't associate with you when you are "colorful", do you change to accommodate their preferences?

I have blue, purple, gray, and gold skins. I love them all and I wear them often. I get hit on less when I'm wearing them, which is sad because I feel exotic and sexy in them.

I saw some nice gold skins at PopFuzz Designs, I don't know if that's where Oryx found hers, though.
