I'm already assuming that my mother will come to live with us eventually. I'm planning for a house with no second story (no stairs to navigate.) It won't be a hardship. Like you, I'm best friends with my mom. :)

I love my Mom dearly, but I'm glad I have two older brothers, including one in Germany. :p I really don't want a housemate. Boomer is enough.

A few quick responses:

> Lindal: My mom had cataract surgery a while ago, amazing results even though she was not young at the time. I'm jealous now, not being a good candidate for lasix.

> Oryx etc.: I'm basically living at my Mom's place now, taking care of her. It is very rewarding, though I do keep a separate apartment as well. It's particularly useful when she's having a spell where she needs help intermittently all night long. You can only do that for so many nights before you have to arrange for another person to help while you go elsewhere and sleeeeeep.

> Lexxi - Don't worry about anything that is said "over there", if you can possibly manage to forgetaboutit. Folks there are prone to hero worship, and if you happen to disagree with one of the current heros, members will react as if they themselves are being personally attacked. Happens at a lot of places on teh interwebz. *shrugs*

Most of this forum is not as personal-feeling as SLU, but then again, fewer interactions are driven by personalities.

He's under the bridge. His mommy must have told him it was his nappy time.

That's great you have an assist, there. I'm an only child, nobody but me for this. When my dad died in 1999, my husband and I bought my mom a small condo, near us....but quickly saw she wasn't going to be able to live alone, she just couldn't adjust to the new place, how to work things, like the thermostat, new type of stove, etc. I was constantly worrying and checking on her a million times a day. Finally sold the little condo and just moved her in with us, it's much easier. I just can't do the nursing home thing, I"m just not there yet in my mind and truthfully she's not there yet either, as still has times of clarity, when she remembers that she's my best friend.

I wish I had a camera to take some pics for you, but the "National Police Week" Pipe and Drum Parade is going on right outside my office building. :)

Really cool vintage cop cars, and many, many police bagpipe bands. Yay!!!

However, lol....I've heard "Scotland the Brave", "The Minstel Boy" and "The Orange and the Green" waaaay too many times. :p
