Thanks. I'm sorry I wasn't able to listen to his entire set, but look forward to hearing him again. :)

Yep! You can have loss of hearing & still use a computer, read a book, watch tv, etc.

In my family- we either get into our late 90s & die from Alzheimers or die off from heart attacks.

I'll take the heart attack as opposed to having my brain eaten away slowly.

Yes, agree, it's pretty horrible. My mom is 93 and has advanced Alzheimer's. She lives with me and my husband. He's retired and it's really he that is her major caretaker, as I am still pulling that 9-5. (or rather, 7 -4:30, lol). My mom is pretty much in her own world, she doesn't seem unhappy, I think I get more upset by it than she does. Mostly, she recognizes me, occasionally she doesn't. Funny, she still does crossword puzzles, sometimes all day long, and they're right too, I look at them. But other parts, no clarity at all..........

Oh, it isn't energy, it's the heart. I can't tell if I'm being incoherent, or if they were purposelly attacking everything I wasn't saying. I don't care if they attack what I'm saying and/or "prove" it is hogwash, it is when they kept attacking what I wasn't saying that I started getting worked up. Stupid heart. So I'm not over there now for health reasons. Especially since I had that attack relatively recently.

oops . . . should not have started thinking about that again. heh. me go be calm now . . .

If it's too stressful, it's not worth it. Forums are supposed to be fun. :) Oh and I loved your thing on Cato (the real one) over in the other thread. Was he really smelly? How do we know?

This has happened to quite a few of my friends and their parents. In some ways having her in the same house with you is less worrying, and in some ways more... My heartfelt best wishes to you all.

Oddly, I was getting into it again. The day was actually going rather well until that point, over there I mean.

Well, I just assume. heh. He was big on "traditional values". Actually I'm getting conflicting messages in my brain. Either he was for public baths, because it was traditional and people were starting to have private baths, or he was against it. I think, if I recall correctly, that he was for public baths. um. So, I take back the smelly comment. heh.

(gah, public baths, cringes)

I was thinking about the whole Alzheimer's thing recently... I wonder if it wasn't such a big deal back when multiple generations of family lived together out on the farm. I mean, yeah, granny's going a bit daft, but we'll make sure she doesn't wander off into the cornfield. Nowadays, we all live separately, and questions like "What are we going to do with granny" arise. Nowadays, it's a SCARY thought to have granny living all by herself, and maybe forgetting to eat, or wandering into traffic, or forgetting how to contact someone for help.

We also died a lot younger back then, so maybe there was actually less Alzheimer's then.

Whichever, hugs to Treasure and Lindal. It sounds very sad. I hope my parents are spared.

And you know what they used instead of toilet paper, right?

My hugs also to everyone who is living with this.

Although as I mentioned my own mom's mind was very sharp right to the end, she was pretty frail in the final years and I was so grateful that we all lived together and I could know from minute to minute how she was doing and what she needed. (Plus, like my husband, she was very easy to live with they were my two best friends.)

I'm already assuming that my mother will come to live with us eventually. I'm planning for a house with no second story (no stairs to navigate.) It won't be a hardship. Like you, I'm best friends with my mom. :)

Mymom lives with us now- she is 85. Her memory isn't so good and she has set off the fire alarm more than once. All in all she does quite well. We have been most fortunate.
