*LOL* Awww. Sounded like you were having a blast, from your posts here, lol. Once you started getting some assistance, that is.

We know pretty much what Spike did his first week in SL, what did the rest of you do? I camped, did the money tree thing, completed surveys that never ended. Won a pink Volkswagon which is still in my inventory today. Looks like a baby buggy.



I spent about 3 hours on OI, and went on my way. I wandered, spent time learning the basic controls and spent a lot of time working on my avatar. My "home" was a place called Odds and Ends, a newbie friendly place. I also spent time at The Common Grounds Coffee House, a quiet place that had a good Jazz stream, and a club called The Space Lounge, where I was very lucky with the Sploders. I managed to parlay a few bucks from the money trees into a couple of thousand , which gave me my first shopping stake.

I've never been 'stalked' by anything and nobody barely spoke to me my first week.


My first week? Let's see. I spent my first day on Orientation Island...and realized I needed a better video card and headset...so off to the store I went...then, since one of my RL brothers and my RL best friend are both in SL, they showed me the ropes (oh, not *that* kind, tyvm :p) and then toward the end of the first week I started a thread soliciting ideas for where I could change clothes (as I was homeless). The rest...is history. :)

I spent a lot of time wandering around (back when gambling was legal!) shopping, etc. Dressed up in a tiny little "outfit" of gold chains, teleported to a pub with a dungeon, met a guy.... LOL, it sounds so smarmy now that I think about it. Anyway, spent the first week meeting his friends (dramah!), learning about land, buying my very first 512, dismantling my first freebie house, etc. I knew I was hooked the minute I logged in for the first time.

(Oh, and I bought a new video card, like Mo. :) )

I went to OI, got my torch, and thought, I'll come back later... not knowing that I would miss all the tutorials, cause when I came back I rezzed on Help Island. Boy was I confused! The thing that made me the craziest, was thinking "why does everyone look SO much better than i do?" My first week was spent discovering prim hair and clothing, and finally skins. It took me the longest time to even figure out what a skin was.

I spent a lot of time wandering around mostly empty sims. Although, I do recall meeting a fellow newbie when I went to the Edge nightclub, who promptly took me, in all my Ruth glory, to Neva's nude beach. :eek:

Then, one day I discovered Phat Cats, and really started my Second Life. :p

And where DID you change clothes? I changed clothes and worked on my avi for ages at A-Lady's, in the changing room there. It took me a long, long time to understand the concept of a skin, and why what I had just wasn't good enough, the cartoon noob look.

OMG the torch, I totally forgot about it. And, wasn't there a chain mail vest, or outfit or something?

Oh i spent 3 hours trying to get out of Newbie HELL... not real clear on how to get out of there when your wandering around with other lost people...lol then when i did figure how to transport i landed in a clan of vampires.... yeah .. that was real fun there... they were not happy of my arrival in all my newbie splender....finally got out of there and met the psycho fairy that wanted to marry me after my fifth day in sl... then informed me she was a witch in real life and she could feel our love.. yeah.. ok then.. time to move on.... then met the loving folks of the forum after posting a somewhat bizarre question about man parts..after being tortured for days by everyone here i realized i found a loving home...hehehehehehe


And lived happily ever after... :D

Same here, the concept of skins vs. shapes. I remember getting so frustrated with SL. I had just spent hours working on my shape, and suddenly, it was gone because I clicked on something with a little person in a square in the Inventory... (how is that different from a skin?) Boy was I confused.

I nearly left for good is what I did. Someone thankfully TP'd me out of OI, but into an empty mall area. I saw some people washing windows, but now I realize they were camping, or even bots. There was literally nobody around. I remember finding a car, and went for a ride. But I was majorily bored and when I tried to TP out of there, it seemed everywhere else I went was equally as empty - lovely, but nothing happening.

That went on for a couple of weeks. I do remember doing some camping because there was no way I was going to spend money here at that point. Seriously considered leaving, I was making no friends at all, still not finding any people to speak to - let alone I really didn't have the time to invest in it.

Finally found this Forum and that changed everything very rapidly. Once I begain speaking with people here, the world opened up to me completely. For all the minor annoyances which occur around here, overall this was my saving grace and as I've said several times, I met all of my closest friends , an ex-lover and my current BF right here on the Forum. It taught me more than anything inworld ever did :D


Wow Elora, this is EXACTLY my first weeks also :) Well...minus the current BF ;)

My first week in SL was pretty easy. This was back when The Sims Online was shutting down and alot of friends, who were already here, convinced me to try it. They took me around, showed me all the good freebie places... really helped me alot. I guess this is why I like helping other newbies out.

Not sure if it's that or because the female AV's love a hot looking AV helping them out... God I am an attention whore lol

o I just meant "born again" because I haven't logged in since last september and everything is all new... upgrades and stuff. That Bukkake Bliss thing was last august. I didn't even know what bukkake meant, LOL. He wasn't a very nice guy after all. LOL!
