Fascinating. Like digging up a time capsule.

Who knew Japanese warships made it onto Lake Michigan? :p

@Lil: I know the feeling. I had a French Drain put in my basement last year. Before that, a good rainstorm or Nor'easter and I had Lake Woeisme down there.

Vicodin worked for my headaches a little bit for a little while but it made me feel so lousy everywhere else that it was hardly worth it. I tried five years with no drugs at all but now I have morphine, Dilaudid, Valium, Phenegran, and Ambien that I take in various combinations when the pain gets too bad, but the side affects of all of them are awful and of course they don't work at all if you take them too often... I still have hopes that the headaches will fade on their own as I get older, as they did with my grandmother.

mine have gotten progressively worse over the past 2 years. but, i have had a lot of employment stress since sept 2007, and that seems to be directly related. also, although my doctor refuses to accept my self diagnosis of the other main trigger, i insist they are PMS related. i've been documenting them for 5 months now, and it is very obvious. i can't wait for my next appointment to show her my excel spreadsheet. LOL

Well, after moving lots of stuff around, it seems the worst is going to be getting the water out of the carpet and the two large rugs. I'll send hubby down with the wet vac when he gets home - cuz that really sounds like man's work to me.
:D

Gah, that sucks, Lil!
I've had the odd flood and on one memorable occasion had the sewer drain back into the basement (luckily the unfinished part).

Make sure to dry things out quickly to avoid mold. Turn on some fans and the heat, even, to keep the air as dry as possible.

B.

*Waves to the Threadies* I'm working from home today, as the eagerly-anticipated cat enclosure is being installed as we speak! I'm so excited for the kitties to be able to enjoy the courtyard, and for me, as I tend not to enjoy my outdoor spaces so much when there are two wistful faces pressed to the glass watching my every move. :o

this is very cool. i would love to see your finished product, or know how you go about finding someone who builds such a contraption!

YAY for the kitties.

Mine were definitely related to hormonal fluctuations. In fact I know a lot of women who have or had monthly headaches.

Oddly my headaches - which I've been having for over 32 years were never related to stress at all. Mostly I've had lot of luck avoiding stress but whenever things were stressful the headaches would go away.

seems that the main floor drain back up - probably when the water softener went thru the cycle and dumped tons of water into it. So now we have this huge cleanup to deal with.

ugh. major bummer!

When I was in college we were living in a small apartment building that our apt. was half underground. When I got out of bed on morning there was 4 inches of water on the floor. We managed to get it all cleaned up, working almost all day. Two days later we had another major rainstorm and ended up with over a foot of water in there. And the second time, the landlord brought over some heavy duty pumps from his rental store. The water was coming in faster than we could pump it out.

amazingly, very little stresses me out. i'm probably the most laid back person you will ever meet.... although i sometimes talk and move fast, but don't let that fool you. :p but when i do get stressed out, it's usually really over the top. i don't do that drama thing very well.

we owned a rental at one time, and the septic backed up into the sublfoor, which created quite the nasty mess. i did not live there, but i really felt badly for the tenants.

Blech. Which reminds me of another thing - not my own place.

First time I went to visit my friend in San Francisco - he neglected to tell me the bedroom I was going to stay in had been having "moisture' issues.

I arrived to find mushrooms growing in the carpet  No joke!

I don't think he had realized it himself until I pointed it out to him!

Man's work - yes. Rugs/carpet are VERY heavy when waterlogged :(
