Pep is my guess for this Askandi.

Thanks for the "guess" Lil. Seems to be the general consensus.

There really should be a way to control people who use Alts to annoy, harress, stalk, abuse the sytem, etc. But unfortunately we all know there is no way to accomplish this.

Not saying the possible person does all of those by any means, just speaking in general terms.

"Ignore", "Mute", "Eject" and "Ban" are the only friends/weapons we have for these people.

/me sighs.

So true. Ghosty has very expressive ears when he wears the llama. They crack me up.

There is. LL just won't implement it. :/

Well, in Mo's defense, I always thought she was one of the cuter neko-types out there. It's a shame there aren't more neko cheerleader squads, I might almost grow to enjoy basketball. :D

Apparently, Mr. Ansar knows Ghosty and I well enough to have linked the two of us together.

An interesting puzzle for my fellow threadites to try and figure out this morning.

Who's Alt is this :p

I thought we were trying to keep forum fights out of this thread?

Nope, I'm not fighting anyone. I'm taking Elora out to breakfast, because breakfast out solves *everything*. :) I'll see you kids later

There's no fight Lexxi. Just some curiousity as to how someone so new has so much knowledge about us.

I'm beginning to rather dislike Google. I do not know why but ever since I got the new computer Google keeps asking me with a pop-up once every . . oh . . . 30 minutes? if I want Google Desktop on my computer. I always hit no. There are no options other than yes or no. No option to have them stop spamming me. Well, I just accidently hit the wrong key and I think I hit yes. Now I have a giant sidebar with the date and time and the like. gah. Minimized now.

Are you sure this is Google? I see no popups on there, ever.

What browser do you use?

Yes it is google. Google Desktop. And it doesn't matter what website I'm on - it was here on the forums that it asked me yet again and I think I hit yes.

I use both IE and FF. And used to use on my old computer Opera, Netscape (which doesn't exist anymore) and many others. I haven't gotten around to downloading others yet for new computer.

That's not Google, hun. If you get the popup no matter where you go, it's a spyware bug in your computer, guaranteed. Google doesnt promote it's products that way.

Just my thoughts, but I'm tired of these "Guess who I am? " alt games, when it involves coming into a group of people you know as someone else yet won't own up to it. it isn't funny, it's just childish and annoying. I really wish something would be done about the unlimited alt situation.

BTW, my picks for today are The Giants and The Steelers.

Wow! Thank you. :)

but LOL...1 out of 4: Honor Society.

I tried out for cheerleading during my freshman year, but they told me I was too tall, if you can believe that (I'm only 5' 7"!!).
Honor society: no surprise.
5'7":What?!? I've had lunch with rl you and I would have sworn you were at least 5'10" probably taller. I'm amazed. I was 5'7-1/2"myself until I mysteriously shrunk to 5'6".
And normally I misjudge this the other way - feeling myself to be about the same size as people who are actually 6' I guess them to be my height.
By the way this is totally a compliment that I was so impressed with your personality that I remember you as being physically so much taller than you really are.

From: Ghosty Kips
Or kids were shorter way back then :p
This is true. When I was a kid in the '50's I remember people always remarking on how tall my dad was and he was only 6'1". At 5'7" I was taller than 90% of the girls in my school. My brother who grew to 6'3" was considered to be almost freakishly tall back in the 60's and 70's.

You probably have a task starting up with computer boot that wants to install google desktop and so keeps asking you about it. Checking running tasks will probably show you some sort of google related updated running that is the result of said started task. You can kill the process but it will probably restart on next boot. If you know how to check Services to see what is auto-starting, you can look there and change it to not start.

Yes, that would be the spyware /adware / annoyance that put Google Desktop on her system. Some joker gets paid every time someone downloads and installs Google Desktop, so he makes a spyware app to do it and he got his .50 cents or whatever when she finally clicked "yes" by accident.

I understand Ad-Aware is very good. Personally, I use Norton.

Yep - and new computers always come with tons of that crap wanting to install itself. I swear I spend tons of hours cleaning junk off of brand new computers and uninstalling all kinds of stupid things I do not want.

Oh, the joker that got paid to do it works at Dell. It came with it on there.

Therefore- Build one. ;)

Been running for 2 yrs, no viruses, no spyware (under the true definition), only 2-3 BSOD caused by crappy drivers from some 3rd parties.

I keep a nice, fresh XP image around just in case. Keeps ya from having to go through the whole install process.

If you're using Firefox, I highly recommend the plug-in "NoScript". Its great!

Hmmmm... not sure if it works with Vista but try this:

RUN > type "msconfig"

Look under the Services and Startup tabs and see whats running.

If something looks like the culprit, you can also check on it here:

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

VERY useful to find out what all those esoteric services are ;)

Ahh, I didn't realize that it was a brand new PC. Yep, that is truly annoying. I hate Desktop too, so uninstall it and hopefully it won't be back for seconds. :(

Hidey ho strangers!

I spent yesterday on the slopes, and then my so-called 'friends' kidnapped me and forced me to watch football. So no SL at all.

@Brenda - hope your new puppy is everything you hoped! :)

Ok...off to peek in world.
