I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I thought it was a given that we were talking about human beings although I wd hazard to say certain degrees of elitism and greed and hierarchy is inherent in primates at least as well as in other species. I would say such behaviour is in fact an evolutionary trait and not only in humans. Don't get me started on natural selection :). Here is a random article on dominance and hierarchy amongst chimps that you may enjoy: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/klu/10329/2004/00000045/00000002/art00001
Thanks, Amara, I do find this kind of article very interesting. I think maybe part of our problems today stem from the fact that, like other animals we are designed to compete for territory etc., and let weaker individuals die out of the gene pool. But survival strategies and traits that worked so well when our country needed self-sufficient pioneers to go out to the frontier are a lot less helpful now that most of us live in overcrowded cities.

To expect humans in general to behave with constant altruism is not realistic.
So true. I guess that's why some people believe that the government has to step in. Unless we learn to cooperate with each other soon, I'm afraid we are going to overpopulate and pollute our planet to the point of no return.

I went to get a picture of myself as a cat. Since I can't get into SL, I haven't really been paying attention to views, as . . no new pictures. I had 169 views on December 3rd. On December 4th I had 1,713 views.

Oh look, I'm on the rezzable gallery page (with Mistress).

Right, picture of me as a cat . . .

And I get tired of the let's keep throwing money, OUR money at a problem instead of actually fixing it.

And those programs consistently fail, are ineeficient and wasteful, often times corrupt. The people who need help never get it, or get just enough to stay dependant on the Government and never getting back on their own feet. That is the idea of course, create a permanent class of people who will continually feed the cycle, ensuring those in power stay in power. The waste, mismangement, ineeficiency and plain theft I saw in the years I woked in the public sector are horrifying. I has to stop.
Almost everyone is going to put taking care of their own family first and I'm afraid the less prosperity there is to go around the more easily government officials are to corrupt and the more likely it is that really competent people will go for private sector salaries...

Yes, we are sometimes bad about that. We innocently comment on something and the next thing you know, many of us are on our social/political soap boxes.

So.... a funny:
This is so adorable!!!

The Obamas apparently agree:
Year..... Total income..... Gifts to charity..... Federal taxes
2000..... $240,726.......... $2,350..... $63,732
2001..... $275,123.......... $1,470..... $86,072
2002..... $260,824.......... $1,050..... $68,958
2003..... $238,327.......... $3,400..... $51,856
2004..... $207,647.......... $2,500..... $40,426
2005..... $1,670,995....... $77,315... $545,614
2006..... $991,296.......... $60,307... $277,431

2000 - .9% to charity
2001 - .5% to charity
2002 - .4% to charity
2003 - 1.4% to charity
2004 - 1.2% to charity
2005 - 5% to charity
2006 - 6% to charity

That is pathetic. In the 25 years since I graduated from college, I have never given less than 12% a year to charities, and many years it has been closer to 18%.

This simply hilites even more how the really really rich only pretend to care and give back.

If everyone were like you - like most of us here, I suspect, the world would be a happier place.

Natural Selection- we are animals, exactly, though a tad more "civilised".

But survival strategies and traits that worked so well when our country needed self-sufficient pioneers to go out to the frontier are a lot less helpful now that most of us live in overcrowded cities.
It is because we also have the intelligence to affect our environment and thus strengthen and better indulge our compassionate sides that our cities are over crowded.

From: Kaimi Kyomoon

Unless we learn to cooperate with each other soon, I'm afraid we are going to overpopulate and pollute our planet to the point of no return.
We do co-operate - it is our herd animal behaviour that guarantees that. It's in our genes- we are what we are no matter what we try to do to bend it. We are also competitive- another survival trait.
The planet will take care of that too you know... Black Death, Plague, War... think of them as another aspect of Natural Selection- Gaea taking back Her own for those that believe in that sort of thing. Thing is, overpopulation needs an escape valve- a culling as it were- it is cold, it is heartless and no one wants to be the one who falls- but it will happen if we - AS INDIVIDUALS - do not prevent it. Yes we need government- not to step in- but to guide. It SHOULD be to an individual's credit and honor that he/she chooses the best path and learns to live or die by their decisions- True Anarchy- the individual choosing for himself. Not having choices hoisted upon them. But we all know that too is a Pollyanna dream- we hope to strive for the betterment of self, at least some do- but it's a fine line.
And we come back always to, "We are only human."
