And who the hell decides what "more than their fair share of the wealth" is? If someone works his or her ass off to provide a decent living for their families should a government decide that it is too much and it should go to someone else that chooses not to work as hard? Unlike Commrades Obama and Biden, many of us give thousands a year to valid charities. And if the wealth is redistributed as you seem to want, where is more wealth and jobs going to come from?
Who should get what is a big question. Especially in a society where we see people on tv giving tours of their mansions and other people on street corners begging for food. There are limited resources in the world and one of the reasons we have governments is to organize the distribution of goods and services by building roads and water treatment plants and so on. In a democracy theoretically everyone has some say in what the government does and how it gets paid for.
Among a huge and diverse population many people will not agree with the majority.

Traditionally the biggest baddest dude in the region was the one who got most of the regions resources. Louis xiv thought it was perfectly natural that thousands of should spend many of their waking hours in back breaking labor so that he could live in a palace and raise armies to invade his neighbors.

Today it looks like the median wage for firefighters in the U.S. is about $44k/year of which a single person paid $7,338 to the IRS in 2007, leaving him or her with about $37,000 for other expenses.

Last year John Thain, CEO Merrill Lynch & Co., apparently earned $83.1 million. If he were a single guy with no deductions he paid 29,028,596.75 in income taxes last year, leaving him with 53,971,403.25. It might not seem fair that Mr. Thain, has to pay 35% of his income while the median firefighter pays only 17%. For pretty much everything else, food, housing, clothes, etc. they will pay at the same rate. Many people believe that being CEO of Merrill Lynch is so important and difficult that it is worth that much more than the work the firefighter does. Many others aren't so sure that this is really fair.

I commend you for giving money to charity. Surely that sort of generosity is one of the things that gives society strength.

The Obamas apparently agree:
Year..... Total income..... Gifts to charity..... Federal taxes
2000..... $240,726.......... $2,350..... $63,732
2001..... $275,123.......... $1,470..... $86,072
2002..... $260,824.......... $1,050..... $68,958
2003..... $238,327.......... $3,400..... $51,856
2004..... $207,647.......... $2,500..... $40,426
2005..... $1,670,995....... $77,315... $545,614
2006..... $991,296.......... $60,307... $277,431

/me stalks around the newcomer, eyeing her suspiciously

/me glances up and eyes the stalker, mews softly in greeting, then refocuses her attentions back to the skittering sounds under the sofa.

You put up a box around me once, right? When I was at the hangout trying to hide my nakedness? If so, Mistress turned up at some point while you were there. If not then . . um . . heh
Yep, that was me.
You were under the floor wearing nothing but some ropes. I assumed you were under orders not to change. We talked you into coming up to join us where you did the river dance thing. That way your arms stayed tied.

Then someone said something about a sale or some other and *poof* everyone left. There was no way I was going to leave a tied up sub alone and vulnerable so I stayed until Love logged on.

If I had only known then what I know now ... *I* was the one who was in danger.
