CX... you know how for various reasons new drilling is discouraged- with out trying to rile up the environmentalists and the anti-environmentalists - but... China is about to start drilling off the coast of Cuba. Isn't that a comforting thought? We won't drill in the Florida straits for fear of disturbing the ecology - valid concern of course- it's the only planet we got...but hmm- I would rather trust our country to do the drilling with plenty of fail-safes then let China do it- y'all do recall the recent bunch of "Oops" coming out of that country right?

What people do not understand is oil companies can drill wells, 3 miles or 100 miles from the beach and no one would see a thing. There would be a ship anchored for a month or two and then nothing. The entire well head, christmas tree pipe lines everything is located on the sea floor. Nothing sticks out of the water. The oil and gas is piped to an exsisting platform or inshore for processing. US oil companies are the most regulated industry on the planet. Environmental rules alone fill libraries. A platform is not allowed to show any sheen on the water. NONE. Go to any marina and look around the boats docked there. One tablespoon of vegitable oil will make a sheen 10 feet wide and 30 feet long.

I have a million $L that says China / Mexico / Nigeria / Saudi Arabia do not have such rules. I am not saying that we should let oil leak out of the pipes either. Tar balls that wash up on the beaches in California, Oregon and Washington.. are naturally occuring. Oil seeps out from cracks in the earth known as faults. That is a natural process and that is how oil accumulates in pockets inside the earth. It is better to drill wells, suck it out and use it rather than let it wash up on the beach.

On a separate note- between the Thread that won't die covering all subjects from silly to highbrow and all places in between - and the Don't Whine thread - the forums have achieved peace and stability :) Yay!

Maybe we should start a Drama thread - where everyone can go confess their sins or wail over the inequities perpetrated upon them?

I forgot that my offer was $1500 and not $2000 like I posted later. So to be clear, the poster of reply #3000 only gets L$1500. Sorry, need to put the other L$500 towards gas. It's over $4 a gallon in L.A. now.

As soon as I get my tax refund, I'm buying a motorcycle. I drive an Avalanche - great truck, awful mileage, and I'm getting eaten alive. 50-60 mpg sounds pretty good right about now.

Saw that it was $3.80 near me. And I just bought a car (had to do so, other died). Should have gotten one of those that get 60 miles per gallon.

I get 400 or so miles in a full tank (I think, got it at half tank and it was at 200 miles left until I had to refill the little device on the car said).

I'm with you, Trout. I'm all for buying a Vespa. Gas price hit $1.29/Litre today on the west coast of Canada. hmm....now just got to figure out how to fit the kids on the Vespa?

Yes, Oryx...great pic. I've been reading a book series where there is a character who is a drow (but a guy), and I always wondered what his skin would look like! Now I have a much better idea...pretty yummy mental image of that character now...:)

Well, to be perfectly honest, I really want a motorcycle, and this is a pretty good excuse as far as I'm concerned. By my math, it will pay for itself in gas savings in about 10 months.

Maureen.. I was totally going to tell you that your "under the radar" user title was no longer valid. But you changed it already.

You are fast! :)

OMG! I just ran by the Target on my lunch break and I almost bought the perfect pitcher for sun tea! I was thinking all the way back to work that I should have!

I'd love a glass, thanks.
