From: Novis Dyrssen Two major things are wrong with this release, IMO (aside from the vids on W2K) - they removed the preferences button from the login screen (which came in handy to change graphic settings BEFORE I go inworld because that made the client less likely to crash compared to doing it when already online, and voice is now activated by default. Yeah, Lindens, shove it down our throats again, the resident bitches are gonna take it eventually... *sighs* Yeah Preferences would be handy, don't miss the new account button, but Voice isn't activated by default, it was only activated first time I logged in, all the other times it has stayed off the way I left it, hardly a reason to avoid using a viewer in my view I guess maybe it will cause extra lag as people wander around without disabling it....

My friends list works fine too.
It doesn't make any difference to anyone whether voice is on or off by default. If a person doesn't want the default setting, change it in Preferences. Sound transmission is off by default, so it really doesn't matter.

From: Tegg Bode but Voice isn't activated by default, it was only activated first time I logged in, all the other times it has stayed off the way I left it The default setting is ON. Of course it stays off if you deactivate it. Considering the heat they get in every blog entry concerning the usage of voice by residents, I consider it (to put it mildly) confrontational of them to implement it into the viewer like "WE think it's best for you to have this on, so DO it, dammit!". From: Tegg Bode hardly a reason to avoid using a viewer in my view Actually, I never said that. I just said I'm not inclined to try it out NOW, for various reasons. From: Phil Deakins It doesn't make any difference to anyone whether voice is on or off by default. It does make a difference to me, obviously.

Explain why my firends list is fine, if the viewers bjorked and friends list NEVER NEVER WORKS? Sorry I just find it annoying when within 5 minutes of a new viewer is released a few people, some seem to be the same people who crash on every new viewer download, pronounce it totally broken or worse than the previous one. If every new viewer doesn't work for them doesn't the evidence point a little to something they have different like their ISP or PC? And how come in 3 days time people using the same viewer will have a friends list with nothing changed? Try running SL on diallup some time and see how many things like friends lists amnd teleports start failing,, SL is very reliabnt on a good connection, ISP's often throttle people without them knowing itm because the average WoW user isn't going to notice his ADSL speed halve for a few hours. In SL you will notice, as we keep downloading the same textures again and again. Yep checked them again all my friends are still there on all 4 viewers I use. Maybe my version of the new viewer is different to everyone elses?

We're all very happy for you! In all seriousness -- for those of you with trouble with friends list: Clear cache, relog, then log back out. DO NOT CLEAR CACHE AGAIN. Log back in. It *should* work on your *second* login after a cache clear. Yes, I know it sounds odd, try it anyways.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville What is it that you think is wrong with it, Ricardo?
It not Windlight. Been here too long to know downloading new content or just fixes usually means problems. I'm ok the way I am right now. As for Windlight, all I see is the many problems it has from people on here. The scenery is just fine as it is for me, I don't need pretty bells and whistles. Not too long ago they said to download a viewer and many people did. Turns out the viewer was no way near ready and people were complaning of the many problems it was causing them. Which in turn had Linden doing their usual song and dance of "We're sorry but please have patience." Everything isn't all fine and dandy right now but it's a lot better then with added problems which always arise after you've loaded in these downloads so I'll take my chances the way it is.

Get the new viewer, lose your friends. See, what I mean? I also saw it but I clicked on entering sl and I was surprised but I came in without loading it.

Maybe I need another cup of coffee, but... From: someone New features and changes:
* Voice o Voice Chat is now enabled by default to allow Residents to hear other Residents. o A microphone is required to speak to other Residents. When you used voice chat previously, were you able to talk in voice chat without a microphone? I was hoping maybe I could just plug my PC into the USB port behind my ear and skip the microphone thing entirely. Bummer.

From: June Oh I use Windlight, which many of the people I talked in SL have never heard of. Anyway the piont of my post is why do we have 2 systems, why do they work on 2 fixing bugs etc. surely if one system then putting all this work to that wpould give quicker progress. But there are 2 so which is the most advanced in running well? I know of course Windlight is improved picture, but does this other system run better? Love June. Hi, again. As I got no coments from you I'm wondering if my post did not appear. Love June

From: June Oh Hi, again. As I got no coments from you I'm wondering if my post did not appear. Love June It did, but perhaps nobody has the answer I would imagine that different development teams are working on each - Windlight bods focus on WL related bugs, issues and user feedback, ditto the main viewer. Better perhaps to do this in relative isolation in order to nail as many of the specific issues as possible before the inevitable when both are merged. Pure speculation on my part. I know little of this sort of stuff, or how such projects are managed. I've no idea (or interest) in how the Release Candidate works because I fell for Windlight in a big way the second it was made available. My SL experience motors along nicely in the WL viewer, and, living by the sea, I'm not about to give up on my water and sunsets just yet.

RE the friends list: It shows fine on the Mac client. What OS are you on?
Re checkboxes for allowed and banned lists: I'll agree that losing those checkboxes makes no sense. I would imagine a lot of people use the "Allowed" list for frequent visitors, while their land group is only for those who live on the parcel. Being able to toggle off the allowed list to have "private time" just for residents makes sense.
RE Voice on by default: Annoying and stupid, from my perspective, but I simply turned it off in Preferences before I hit Connect.

i loaded the new viewer last night.
I did not loose any friends.
I did not loose any inventory.
I do not run any other viewers on my machine.
Everything works fine.
There is a white dot above my avatar. I don't know what that means. I have seen it there in previous versions also.

OK, so I hear a lot of bitching about the new viewer (as usual). I take it it's a borked viewer? Does ANY body like it?
I'd also like to ask a simple questions: Why is the Nicholaz Viewer SO much better than a [working] LL viewer? Can you guys give me some of the stronger reasons why you think the Nicholaz viewer is superior, than say, the last viewer before the borked one? Is it the communication window? Better performance? Less lag? Less crashing? Please explain, in a NOT-fanboy way why it's superior. Thanks.
Is any one ever happy with a viewer? Me thinks not. I think I'm the only one that likes LL. I"m confused how so many people here play SL when they hate so much about it all the time. *shrugs*

The link http://download-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-18-5-3_Setup.exestill works at the moment if one needs to get a copy of the old install file back. I'm assuming that was the most recent regular viewer. Unless you delete the old installation files, they remain on your computer.

"CX" White dot has to deal with the voice part. Once you click on 'enable voice' it appears over your head. Unclick it and it goes away.
