After spending several weeks in Release Candidate status, the Second Life 1.19.0 Viewer is now available for download as the primary viewer from the Community: Downloads page. Many thanks to all of you who helped us find and fix issues along the way!

The Second Life 1.19.0 Viewer contains some important new features, changes and a ton of bug fixes. This release also addresses the QuickTime security issue identified back in December and updates the required version of QuickTime to 7.4. Read on!

New features and changes:

* Voice
o Voice Chat is now enabled by default to allow Residents to hear other Residents.
o A microphone is required to speak to other Residents.
o Push-to-Talk is the default mode for transmitting voice.
o Push-to-Talk is on by default. This means Resident mics are off by default.
o These settings can be modified via the Voice Chat tab of the Preferences dialog.

* Age Verification:
o The user interface for parcel and estate access has been clarified and improved.
o Added the ability to restrict access to parcels and estates to age verified adults.
o Removed the ability to *ban* access to Residents who have provided payment info or who have used payment info. We continue to support the ability to *allow* access to only those who have provided payment info.

* Crash Reporter
o The crash reporting mechanism has been improved. Following a crash, more useful information will be sent and reports should now take less than 10 seconds.

* VWR-210: Voice Support on Linux
o This is experimental, see README-linux-voice.txt for more information or discuss it in the Linux Client Testers forum

* Other changes:
o Change alert message that pops up when you set Busy
o Add “Teleporting from SLURL to SLURL” to the chat history to provide simple “back” links
o Print the name of the missing gesture in the error message
o Remove “New Account…” and “Preferences” buttons from login screen for 1.19.0

Complete 1.19.0 Release Notes available on the Second Life wiki. Please continue to report any new issues in the Issue Tracker and be sure to set “Affects Version/s” to 1.19.0.4.

Out of curiosity, why don't you want it, Ricardo? I haven't tried it yet, myself, but from the release notes, it sounds like quite a few rather annoying bugs have been squashed, which is good. What about do you dislike so much that you'd prefer to keep the bugs? Or do you just hate change?

There's no Nicholaz version, and it sounds like it's unlikely there will be. I'm not downloading it unless I absolutely have to.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Some other programmer or team of them might need to step up to bat if Nicholaz isn't going to continue with updates.

Yep, a problem. QuickTime 7.4 is now required, because earlier versions have a security hole. But there is no QuickTime 7.4 for Windows 2000; 7.1.6 was the last version that supported Windows 2000. This means that Windows 2000 is no longer a fully supported operating system for Second Life, though the system requirements have not yet been updated.

I don't expect that LL will consider it a priority to fix this. It's more likely that they will officially drop support of Win2K. You could rebuild the viewer with the QuickTime version requirement patched, at least until they start putting in code that won't work on Windows 2000.

I got the same warning, in a red-bound box and exclamation point, but it let me log-in with the same viewer I had -- 1.18.5 (3).

When I logged I saw something saying a mandatory upload but it didn't require me to do so.
Is this same version?
Just curious.
I am not updating either unless I am required to do so.

Two major things are wrong with this release, IMO (aside from the vids on W2K) - they removed the preferences button from the login screen (which came in handy to change graphic settings BEFORE I go inworld because that made the client less likely to crash compared to doing it when already online, and voice is now activated by default. Yeah, Lindens, shove it down our throats again, the resident bitches are gonna take it eventually... *sighs*

Land Permissions changes screwup...
02-29-2008 01:39
Hi,

BTW, my friends list is now permanently borked. I have been able to see any of my friends since i downloaded this...thing (can't call it a viewer now can i ?...)

As well, someone tell me please why would they take off the check boxes for the Allowed Residents and Ban lists? Ban list i can understand. Its not like you check/uncheck it often but the Allowed list of residents? That doesnt make sense at all!!!

So now, ITs either public (with its own options) OR Group Access WITH Allowed residents, unless you delete all the names of the allowed residents. So if you need to change often between group access and allowed residents, like i do, you're basically screwed.

And Don't tell me it does matter now since i can't add my friends...LOL!!! Seriously, it's quite a major problem.

Cheers,

ITs now in an Edit menu on the top left of the viewer login screen. Agreed the button was very practical. Loved it to clear cache, quit and restart. But i can accept the change, as long as it's here ;)

I use Windlight, which many of the people I talked in SL have never heard of.
Anyway the piont of my post is why do we have 2 systems, why do they work on 2 fixing bugs etc. surely if one system then putting all this work to that wpould give quicker progress.
But there are 2 so which is the most advanced in running well?
I know of course Windlight is improved picture, but does this other system run better?
Love
June.

Voice mandatory? Meh. If I dont wanna talk, I just keep the earphone jack plugged in & not the microphone jack. If I wanna talk, I'll plug it in. Can't understand any reason for doing so? Tough Cookies! Don't care if your male/female/other/deaf/blind/or just plain stupid. Voice or not, I really dont care. MIght as well bitch about not having support for Integrated Graphics & Windows 95.

I *did* like Preferences on the login screen, however.

W2K support- well, considering I still know & deal with people using it, compared to XP anymore, its a bit dated. Still good, but its time is near.

Yeah, read that on the blog too. Since I am not inclined to download and try it out right now, I only read the official entry that they removed the button.

Tod69, I'm not really sure what you want to tell me. Are you saying that your take on voice is the cooler one and I should just take it because I'm bitching for no reason?

Well, I for one like a choice, and I have a hunch that they just made it mandatory to fiddle with their statistics, so they can say that "more and more users actively use voice" because they are too lazy or not interested enough to turn it back off.

Yes well SL doesn't seem to support Win95 or 98 anymore either, perhaps it's time to move into the 21st century? :)
