I was hoping this age verification thing died off, but guess not. The economy in here is tanking as is due to lots of reasons and now they are going to pull the plug on even more. Don't get me wrong I guess kids should not be in here but I have a strong feeling that alot of people in here are kids! Like it or not. And before anyone posts it, don't give me this "Its summer wait till winter and everything will be back to normal cause people are gone right now) junk. Its BS. People have left SL but not because its summer...

Are you saying the economy is going to suffer because we will be losing kids?
You may want to clarify your OP.

Hell its not just that... Second Life Gods are too busy finding ways to chase people off rather then finding ways to bring them in.

lol I love how everybody thinks their country has the most people in Second life. I get a kick out of it. Funny thing is... Most are wrong. Go look at the forums on here even. The ones with the most posts are Deutsches Forum / German Forum.

Chasing the kids out will help SL, not hurt it. Kids are generally broke, and spend no money, hold no land, dont buy premium and do nothing more than pan handle, camp and grief. Good riddence, also the lighter load will help with the db issues and make SL more stable. What could possibly be better?

Besides what's really going to hurt us is when all the Canadians leave. Messed up the company I work for when the Canadian Gaming Laws were made more stringent ... and I've just been reunited with a really nice Canadian friend who was saying last night that it's illegal for a website to ask for details. But hey ... that's Canada not the US so I am guessing US legislation overrules and as it's voluntary (for now) it's 'caveat (avatar) emptor'.

From: Nina Stepford verification is the first step in the merging of the teen/adult grids. mark my words. I think that's a very real possibility. LL will have to solve the technical problem, though, of making the restricted content *invisible*, not just unapproachable, otherwise they'll be in more trouble than they are already. And they'll have to deal with chat leakage, I suppose, unless they can "legislate away" that problem by requiring all profanity, etc., to be in IMs or private voice conversations. So, while I think it could well happen, I wouldn't hold my breath. On the broader topic, I *do* think age verification will hurt the SL economy--for reasons totally unrelated to any possible "kiddie attrition"--and rather more than the gambling ban did. I'll spare this post of my usual rant about why the gambling ban didn't have much effect, but the age-verification thing makes everything so much more complicated, it's hard to know what business to try to conduct. As a scripter, I've got both "adult" and "PG" stuff I was about to bring to market; now I have to decide whether I'm really gonna split my store into restricted and non-restricted parcels. Now, if I'm facing that question with one little store, what can be going through the minds of the big mall-owners? And I've posted on another thread my angst about what to tell my few residential tenants, and what I must do in order to maintain acceptable risk of being AR'd for any possible tenant indiscretions. Now, if I'm worried about my handful of rental parcels, what can be the thoughts of someone considering buying a freshly-minted Mainland sim as rental property?

From: Nina Stepford verification is the first step in the merging of the teen/adult grids. mark my words. Sure sounded liek that was Dan L's eventual plan. -------------------------- Whats even more impressive? Were going to get Verification. The Ability to displayed Verified information. The merging of the Teen Grid and the Adult Grid. and the removal of the Disclosure clause. More fun than a barrel of rabid monkeys.

yeah, that jumped out me in a very dramatic way. its ironic that people keep insisting that idv is a means to exclude kids from the grid when in fact it is laying the ground work to integrate them into the grid. From: Colette Meiji Sure sounded liek that was Dan L's eventual plan.
