Due to a power outage I was forced to log in again this morning and I was confronted with a mandatory update. Suddenly we will all be forced into using a voice enabled client, including the communications window people have been complaining about.
Can I say I hate this?

Does Nicholaz have a viewer for this one yet. And is it supposed to ask me if I want voice enabled every time I log on?

No, but he did a hack so you can continue to use the pre-Voice version. He also has a link to download the old one if you already did the mandatory download. http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/09/release-nicholaz-edition-oldschool-m.html

I downloaded the LL Bleeding Edge Candidate version, then the Nicholaz version to go with that one. Voila!! This viewer looks almost like the old school one. Instructions are near the bottom of this page: http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/09/bleeding-edge-edition-18xm.html

I don't know... I've been reading for so long how bad the new communications thing is.. I expected it to be some really rediculously bad thing.. Well.. Other then the friends list is way too small.. I don't see what the big problem is.. The tear off system works just fine.. The only big differance is The IM window is portrait rather then landscape.. I dunno, I've seen worse set-ups....

The funny thing is, the ANTI-hype just makes it so much nicer when you actually DO see it...because by the slander, you're expecting a 500 pound gorilla drooling on your screen. So when you finally see what WAS done--it all seems like a bad General Hospital episode....nay...season.

Same here. Don't know what all the fuss was about. And now you can actually see which parcels are voice enabled.

do I like it? nope. I went years the old style. No problems. So by god lets change it!!! I will wait for Nicholaz to return things properly. Until that time I was able to turn off voice on my sim and for myself. Im getting the feeling that many dont believe people have rights to be against change. That's their right but it wont stop me

I have used and enjoyed voice but find myself getting sick of wearing a headset alll the time so I just turn it off when I need a break. It would be nice if the communicate window was only available if you have voice enabled and defaulted to the old way when you didn't.

I truly don't see what all the fuss is about.
It can be turned off both by parcel and user.
It can be turned on both by parcel and user.
Why are people bothered by this function? Any more than deselecting Go AFK when Idle?
Forgive me for being dense but no one has to use it, I am at a loss WHY people are getting upset about the ability being there.
/me waits for Windlight.

LOL no matter HOW good the new UI is it can not be that much more convienent than the old one to equate buying butter int he store and churning it yourself. It would be closer to buying old fashioned sticks of butter rather than the easier to use tubs.

Can I say I hate this? I'm with ya. I was complaining with friends an family last night about ti, all of who hadda download it. I suspect eventually I'll learn to deal with it, but it's bad UI design, an so big dat it takes away from the 3D interface of the world. I already figgured out how to separate my chat history from it. I jes wish I could do some of it permantely. From: Michael Bigwig You'll get over it. Former Fark mod? Mari

No one's judging you. It's just a matter of choice.
I read all the "I hate the Communicate window" posts from the beta testers, and was prepared to loathe it.
But, it wasn't all that bad (IMO). In fact, it consolidated some things that I used to have to go elsewhere on the UI for.
So, I've been using it for several weeks now.
A couple days ago, I installed the voice-enabled Nicholaz viewer, which reverts back to the old style UI...and I found that I no longer preferred it to the new style.
Gee...I wonder if Nich will release a version that fixes the bugs, but leaves the Communicate window??
