Went to seek help from the vampires last night

Hi. For those who haven't read my RL wife's story:

She had a good friend a few months ago and lost touch for a few weeks. Then last week she got a TP requesting to dance with him at a popular club so she went. She got a bite request, and told it is a new dance so she accepted - and of course attacked, forcing her unwillingly into his RP fantacy.

I wasn't present myself but sent him a strong IM (He was out when I sent it), of which I haven't any reply. I asked would it be OK if I joined a Jack the Ripper RP and targeted his loved one for an attack etc etc etc.

Another of her friends who recently turned vampire said there is an elixir available to remove the effects, and gave us a LM.
We were dancing at a general community club with a group of obnoxious vamps on the other side throwing fire and blood upon everyone else there. We decided to leave there and follow the LM her friend gave, expecting the same rude, obnoxious treatment at her den.

So we walk in and I say "Hi" to the closest person, who was very polite as I enquired about this cure potion. She summoned the "Queen" and I explained again our dilemma.

She sacans us and tells me that ---- I too have been bitten ----. I tell her I have not been, she is quite sure of it. Then she tells me the date of infection was July 6.

WOW!
That means I was bitten less than a week old by someone praying on nubees. She says my soul is in "Limbo", along with my wife. She gave me my attacker name, who I promptly opened an assault charge with LL.

I told LL that if they don't do something about the rampent vampire attacks across the grid against their citizens then it is a sad time to leave SL

We both are offered the elixir by the Queen for L$395 each, good for 1 use only.
We didn't buy it for several reasons. One reason is it makes us -more- vulnerable if another attack occurs, the other reason for not supporting a bloodline group.

She also gave us the name of my wife's attacker clan name along with the "leader".

So we left the vampire den and I IM'ed his "Queen" and lodged a complaint about him. She was really super nice, apologetic saying they don't allow such attacks

(Don't we always hear them saying that?)

But she was nice enough to give us both the elixir for free, which we drank. "Wormwood" I think it was called. She also said she'd ask bloodlines to delete our names off the bitten list.

I asked if it is possible to bring our avatars back to the normal state as if before we were bitten.

"No" was the answer

Apparently if they don't attack anyone their game numbers go down and at zero are "Tossed into the Abyss" which explains the number of assaults across the grid.

Although she, and *some* vamps are very considerate and nice, it is really disgusting what they are doing to ppl all over the grid, so ---utterly cowardly--- to attack noobies who are already struggling to learn SL.

I've never been bitten by a vampire - at least not that I aware of. I could easily have been bitten when new and not known, as you were.

What are the effects of being bitten by an SL vampire?

I understand not wanting to be bitten/attacked, and that *some* Vamps are becoming a pain, BUT this is SL, you don't need anything to return you to how you were, unless you rp Vamp stuff yourself, which I assume you don't? I really wouldn't worry so much about this, just don't accept invites/animate your av requests if you don't know someone. Sorry but I think it's abit OTT, tho I do understand the not wanting to be bitten.

ok, I'm SO not going to expose my neck to find out, but what are the "effects" of which you speak, and what makes you now less than "normal"?

I don't understand all the fuss with talking to Queens and drinking elixirs and such...being bitten only adds your avatar name to a database, it doesn't actually change anything about your av in terms of SL.

Not a thing unless he's obsessing over the Bloodlines website, which would be odd given that he cares nothing about it. I swear, hasn't this whole "omg, vampires are offering to bite us, they are th3 new griefers!!!!11" meme been played out already? After 3 or 4 threads about it, the whining is more annoying than the vampires in SL but I guess some people aren't happy unless they have something to freak out over. (Coming soon, "Bloodlines is the new Copybot!!!111!"

So...let me see if I understand correctly: if you are bitten by an SL vampire, the sum total of the consequence is that your name is added to the "bitten" database?

If someone doesn't tell you you have been bitten, you would never know?

You don't turn into a bat on nights of the full moon, or burn to ashes if you don't set your property to midnight?

It does seem like a non-issue to me.

Nobody can force you to do anything you don't want to. And so what if you are on their list of names.

Well, I think the database also claims the vampire has your soul or something, but I believe mine resides with my typist.

Like Annie said, NOTHING happens to you if you are bitten and do not wish to participate in the game. No need to panic. Eleven.

If you are mislead, as was my wife and someone proceeds to attack you, one gets all the feelings as if being attacked any other way. (Unprovoked slug, etc)

Me, I had no idea that I was bitten. It was better that I had not known.

The avatars we've spent a lot of RL $$$, countless hours tweaking is now permenently part of someone's RP fantacy which we have learned to destain, and never had any interest in what so ever.

It's like U bought a new car from an decietlful dealer, only to find out that it had previously been totalled in a wreck, rebuilt and sold to U.

Yes it looks and drives like new but U know, deep down that it ain't new, and U don't really want it anymore and now stuck with it because of someone else's greed.

It would be one thing if they could reverse the effects completely but they can not.

*sighs* And I don't have a soul for them to steal since I sold mine to buy that cool beach-front property with lots of prims. =D

Your wife's former 'friend' is a jerk, but this whole, "My avatar has been sullied!" thing is just silly. No one did ANYTHING to your avatars, except run a little animation and add their names to a database. The animation stopped and you can have the names removed with a simple IM. Net damage = 0.

There are no effects. Just IM the owners of the website as mentioned above and your name will be removed.

Zerock - everyone told you in the other thread that there was no possible way that there could be any negative effect on your wife or you from this nonsense. It was rude and disrespectful for the person who was pretending to be a vampire to bite your wife, or for it to happen to you when you were new, but it didn't hurt either of you one bit.

The pretend vampires do not have access to your inventory, nor can they empty yor Linden balance.
RP = Role Play. That's all. It isn't real.
Nobody assaulted you or your wife. You both accepted a request to animate your avatar. You might have been tricked into it, but nevertheless, you accepted it. It's not like you were orbitted, caged, set on fire, deformed or otherwise griefed.

I think you might be overreacting just a bit. There doesn't appear to be any damage here.

Jinkies, Zerock. You and your wife are obsessing waaaay too much over this. So much so that you've actually bought into the vamps' roleplay. Potions, indeed.

Just do what everyone's been telling you to do for days now: ignore the bats, and get on with your Second Lives.

You are in 100% control of how important this is to you. As are all the vampires, each unto themselves. Just let it go!

Not that I would Ever Recommend This, but Purely Hypothetically Speaking you don't even need anyone's permission to get their name on a list - though there are ethics issues with doing that.

There's a thing called a nametokey database - essentially you could, without needing any permissions at all, turn anyone you want into a Keebler Elf, say. By listing them, and then a hypothetical Elf HUD would 'know' them as such.

Yeap, and as King of the Keeblers, you could make them work at making cookies for eight months straight to get their name off.

Sorry, how would it be different if they could reverse the effects for you? What they've done makes no difference to your avatar in SL. Ignore it, drop the drama, move on. Taking this seriously is like believing being called gay can turn you gay (or straight, bi, Martian or whatever). Have they taken any of the RL$$$ or countless hours from you? No.

IM the admin of the list and get your name removed. If the fantasy part of it bothers you so much, go RP an exorcism or a soul-quest and get back your lost humanity.

Sigh, why am I even bothering to respond to this, I don't even care about vampires in SL but this is so over the top I can't help myself.

First, what happened to your wife sucks, no pun intended. That still doesn't make it an attack in the SL sense and complaining to LL about it is crazy. If I shoot you with a shotgun, that's an attack. If I ask for permission to animate you and you agree, that's not. Rather simple really.

Second, you had no idea you were bitten? Oh really? So you grant strangers permission to animate you and don't notice what happens? Alright, if you say so.

As for the rest of it, it's over the top nonsense. Your AV hasn't been "damaged" by this and if knowing that your AV's name is now on a "bitten" list somewhere is enough to make you carry on this way...I really don't know what to say that hasn't already been said.

I had my first bite request last night while shopping at Nyte and Day. He politely asked to bite, and said no thanks and he went on his way. While it may be considered annoying that they take their RP out into the general Public, and they may be catching a few naive people into buying the "potion" for the most part , it's not a big deal.

And here I thought I was obsessive...
