Kyrah, I don't want to ban kiddie alts, and, while I don't think it's very WISE for them to go to adult areas, I wouldn't make their restriction from such places mandatory either. I have no idea how many paedophiles are in SL (although I have absolutely no doubt there are some), and I don't know how many real children are on the grid, although I've known at least one indisputable 10 year-old who was.

So, while I respect Lias and Peggy's passionate engagement with this issue, I don't really subscribe to their proposed solutions.

What I WOULD like to say, however, is that I find this statement unfathomable and disturbing:

Would you REALLY allow a minors who are on the main grid to continue to endanger themselves because it's "their fault" they are here, and hence "their problem"?

Would you similarly ignore the case of a real life minor approaching someone for hard drugs? Or prostituting themselves on a street corner?

Maybe because i do not see a problem under every rocks.

Common decency? I ive enough dealing with my own family, thanks, i'm not interested in policing the whole block. Childrens are the sole responsability of their parents. If their parents let them unsupervised on the net or if they let them play in nuclear wastes, it's THEIR problem.

I'm sure a few peoples who follow this thread will be as flattered as i am to be labeled of pedophile simply by the look and feel of their avatar, thank you so much for your insight -_-

-ex convicts
-IRS employees
-OCD peoples
-asperger
-rapists
-farmers

I mean you know, everybody can hang out in SL, build stuffs, listen to music, you don't have to be "hunting".

Yeah all those are here too. However, pedophiles prey on children. Adults stand a chance against rapists, murderers, con artists, even the IRS............but do children stand the same chance against pedophiles?

Well i think that kid avatars are allowed as long as they're not sexualized,not near any adult content or on any poseballs.

Policies towards child avatars are largely focused on the actions of the avatars, not the avatars themselves.

Child avatars are allowed within Second Life. A child avatar, even within a mature or adult region (but not participating in adult (in this case, sexual) activities is allowed. A child avatar is allowed do everything any other avatar is, with the following exceptions

Child avatars in sexual situations (sexual congress obviously, though it is unclear beyond this) are not allowed and abuse reportable (ARable).
Public promotion (classified listing, profile, etc.) of sexual situations with child avatars is not allowed and ARable.
Creating areas for the purpose of sexual ageplay is not allowed and is ARable. This includes having items with sexual content (sexual poseballs or equipment) in proximity to items traditionally associated with children (swingsets, etc.)
Indicating that the *real age* of a child avatar (as opposed to a stated SL/role playing age) is below main grid age is not allowed and ARable.
Child avatar nudity has been called into question as well. While no language specific to nudity was included in the initial policies, child avatar nudity of the genital or chest regions, including in otherwise non-sexual situations (skin vendors, for example) can be a violation. This also applies to parcel descriptions: nudity or "clothing optional" language can not be included in a parcel description on a kid-specific area.
Note that child avatars are allowed on PG, Mature, and even Adult public parcels, provided with the latter that they are adult verified. Note that this does not necessarily apply to private parcels where one has the option to eject or ban as desired. The allowance of child avatars on adult rated land such as Zindra does not invalidate any of the above rules.

As with all things, context is key, and err on the side of caution.
